I have been coming to Big M for years- was always my favorite. The hosts this year are the worst. We checked in Friday afternoon - actually 3 of us checked in with separate vehicles and we were hassled about which sites (we had 2 side by side) and were told by the host which vehicle HAD to be where. I understand the Rv's being on the correct site but not the additional cars. I was also questioned about my golden pass and needed to show it to him to verify the number ( I have never had this questioned)
Then Saturday about 12-1 the host came over to everyone at the lake and told them this was a no swimming area. Interestingly, the park patrol has driven by earlier at least twice and nothing said- we had been down there since 8am. Why were we not told when we checked in? and why did he wait til that late to come around and tell people? Why are there no signs at the lake stating this?
We have reservations for Labor Day but if we can find another place, we will not be back until these hosts are gone. They were there last year and we had issues with ice chests being stolen, but we have never had a problem in the previous 5 years we have been camping there.

Not that they could help it but water was high and the little spot on the road we found to swim at we were told we had to leave.

I've been going to Big M for over 20+ years. My experience has been very positive mostly! Marina, floating restaurant, shower facilities (I believe), swimming area. There is a little "Bay area" many campers like to swim in. In the summer, the water temperature is extremely comfortable and great for late night star-gazing while lounging on the water!
As far as supplies, the marina had some but there is a gas station (Uncle Roys) about 9 miles away, dollar general (12 mi), but for 24 hour supplies, you'll have to travel to Cassville Walmart (20 mi).
Overall, beautiful scenery, about 10 miles from Roaring River State Park for the trout fishermen! The only reason I gave the campground 4 stars is because they close for the season earlier than most! I think if they offered year long camping even with limited facilities, they would still get customers because there setting is gorgeous and like other outdoor enthusiasts, it would be a beautiful place for at least Fall campers!

First off, the campground was a good price and was very clean. However with that said, upon arrival at my lot, there was an area in the grass next to it that was closed off with caution tape and had standing water. The area smelled of sewage. I was informed that a sewer line had broke and to fix it the water to the loop would have to be shut off l. They said since the park was closing for the season in a couple of weeks they weren’t going to fix it until then. I was never offered a different site that didn’t have raw sewage next to it and didn’t smell. The park attendant left and I decided to make do and begin setting up my camper. I turned the outside radio on for music while setting up. Mind you, I couldn’t even hear it on the opposite side of my camper. The park attendant came back and informed me my music was too loud and that I needed to turn it down immediately. Again, done as instructed and carried on with my day. The next day a can of soda exploded on the table I had set up outside my camper, spraying the canopy and the camper. I pulled out my garden hose and attached it to the water spigot to wash off the mess before it dries during the hot afternoon. I was paying for full water, sewer, and electric anyway and did not think it was a big deal. The kids at the lot across from mine had a sprinkler hooked up to theirs and were playing in it. As I began to clean up the mess, low and behold here comes the park attendant again telling me I needed to stop as the water was not to be wasted on cleaning my camper. I tried to explain what happened and was told that was not their problem and needed to stop immediately. I guess kids playing in the water is ok, however cleaning up a mess is not. All in all the campground is good and provided the services I asked for, however the parks attendant made it feel more like a boot camp than a relaxing time. I will probably not camp here again.
