One of our favorite campgrounds. If you have ATT you won’t have service.

We love Ray Behrens. Always clean and well maintained. The addition of several full hook-up spots to choose from is wonderful as well!

Site 113 - sewer dump was uphill of the camper. It was also blocked down the line since it wouldn't drain. I had to use the main dump station at the campground entrance.

Ray Behrens Campground and Rec Area has a lovely campground with three loops on the southeast shore of Mark Twain Lake near Perry, Missouri. This is a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (COE) campground and the tollbooth has limited hours for check-in but gates are not locked so you can setup on your reserved site and check in later. We stayed in the Little Blue Stem loop, Site 62, FHU. This site was fairly level, only needed 2 Lego blocks under the rear tires, but be sure and check the site description before booking because we saw some severe slopes in some of the other loops. All sites were paved and the picnic table area has the larger gravel which was great so we didn’t carry it into the RV every time we entered. The bathhouse was new and really nice with six individual rooms instead of stalls. The roads were very well maintained so we took long walks or rode our e-bikes everywhere! There were not any real trails just a short path between LBLS and Deer Run and some steep trails down to the lake from a few campsites.
The M.W. Boudreaux Memorial Visitor Center is nearby and has great informational displays of the area and dam construction. We also took a 20 min drive to Florida, MO to see the Mark Twain Memorial Shrine where the house he was born in has been surrounded by a beautiful building and contains many original items from his life and various homes. Great 20-minute video about his life is available to watch. There is also a large eagles nest on the property which was amazing.
This lake is very conveniently located about half way between Kansas City and St. Louis and has several other campgrounds that were of the same caliber. Frank Russell Rec Area is undergoing remodeling and has a nice Equestrian camp and brand new 50 amp pads. Highly recommend this Lake and any of the campgrounds for a quiet get away or an overnight stay on the way to somewhere else.
