We have been going to Long Shoal for many years. It's convenient, clean and a safe camping area.

ATTENTION TRUMAN LAKE CAMPERS: Beginning on March 1, 2026, spring (March 1-April 14) and fall (October 1-November 30) shoulder camping seasons will be by reservation only. Cash and checks will not be accepted. As with past shoulder seasons, reduced camping rates are in effect due to reduced amenities (waterborne facilities are closed, no park attendants on duty). My site was beside a homeless couple. After the campers across from me left, there were only the two of us in tat area. She came into my site to tell me her story
Although I am sympathetic to our nation’s homeless, as a senior, solo, woman I felt uncomfortable and left a day early…Plus my dog would have not been a match for their pit bull that she said “Did not play nice with other dogs.”
It was my second time there. The first time was amazing. The campsite is large, and close to the restrooms. I probably won’t be back because of my second experience.

We thought the grounds should have been mowed a little better. Between the campsites was very weedy and tall. Maybe that provides privacy? We went back the following weekend to notice the grounds had been mowed before the big Labor Day weekend.
We loved the new bathroom facility. Super nice! We would love to see water spickets added to more campsites.
All in all we enjoyed our time there and will go back soon.
