I’ve been going to this park every year for 45+years and have seen it steadily go downhill due to a lack of care. There used to be great flushing toilets and shower houses in every loop. Those are all gone and there are two showers (no hot water anymore). A sink in each. Toilets have been replaced with Donnickers. They are fine, if kept clean. This year they took excellent care of them. There is a beautiful bubbling Spring along with a spring fed lake in front of the original house. It has suffered -used to be full and Chrystal clear blue water. Occasionally water would be let out to go to feed the cypress-the cypress are dying now and the lake is probably down 10 ft. The sides of the lake were compromised years ago by muskrats. The damage has never been fixed. The water wheel used to be opened every now and then-this can’t happen anymore. The trails aren’t kept up as well either. It’s hard to go from a full crew to using mostly campground hosts to do the work. It’s sad to see. The river is beautiful and we still enjoy coming. They put RV sites in the circle but have never repaired the dump so anyone with an RV has to drive awhile to find a dump site when they leave. These are all things that visitors look for and Markham Springs is failing. It retains its beauty in spite of the neglect. Fuchs house(on the lake)can be rented too.

We stayed at site 28 in the Birch loop. We had plenty of space for our extra large tent, and shade to buffer the full heat from the historical heat wave. We noticed that most sites in the other loops would not have had room for a tent our size. The vault toilets were very clean and well stocked with toilet paper, but the shower facilities were unbearably hot inside and the water pressure was pathetic. This is a beautiful area but probably best for those with a camper.

We had planned to float the river, but it was too high. I'm glad I reserved the pavilion for our friends to gather and grill. It was nice to have electricity for our fans!

This is a very nice campground located in Mark Twain National Forest. The camp was clean and very well maintained. Water, electric, bathrooms and showers all worked well and the bathrooms were clean. There were dumpsters for trash as well. I would 100% camp here again.

Getting There
From Poplar Bluff, take Highway 67 north for 14 mi, then drive west on Highway 49 for 9 mi (about 3 mi past the town of Williamsville). Take the first right after crossing the Black River to enter Markham Springs Recreation Area.

Markham Springs is accessible via State Highway 49, which connects to Highway 67 approximately 14 miles to the east.
Policies & Rules
Cancellation policy
- Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
- Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
- Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
- Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
- Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
- Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
- Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
