FLEECER STATION

About Fleecer Station

Fleecer Cabin is popular for hunters, hikers and winter activities during the fall, winter and spring months. It is not far from Butte, giving locals a respite from everyday life; however, a variety of recreational opportunities await every guest. The cabin was built in 1924 and has been used as headquarters for Forest Service crews ever since. It is available between October 20th and April 15th each year. The cabin is used during the summer field season to house crews. The cabin can generally be accessed by vehicle; however, during the fall and winter, alternative resources may be required to reach the cabin, depending on weather conditions. Usually by January, alternative methods such as ski, snowshoe, ATV or snowmobile are needed to reach the cabin. Guests are responsible for their own travel arrangements and safety, and must bring several of their own amenities.Access to the cabin is through private property, guests are required to keep gate closed and locked at all times. Additionally, guests are not permitted to recreate on private property, which is East and South of the cabin. Guests are encouraged to be familiar with surrounding land ownership and avoid trespassing on private lands.

What Guests Are Saying

Fleecer Station offers a cozy retreat during unpredictable weather, featuring upgraded cabins, a well-equipped kitchen, and lovely views of Humbug Spires. Guests appreciate the warmth from the wood stove and the proximity to hiking trails, including the Continental Divide Trail. Some minor issues include outdated mattresses and occasional noise from wildlife, but overall, most visitors had a wonderful stay.

Fleecer station is always a nice option when the weather is unpredictable or wet. We had snow and rain most of the time so having heat and and ability to make warm food was nice. The cabin upgrades since our last visit was a nice surprise.

Lovely views of Humbug Spires. Little trail up the hill. The Continental Divide Trail is only about a mile away and you can hike, well, as far as Mexico or Canada from there! Very well equipped kitchen, even a toaster. Watch out for the mattresses with built in pillows, they'll give ya quite a crick in the neck... use that end for your feet and bring your own pillows!

Follow-up to previous review. There are multiple locks on the gate. The correct lock has green tape on it. We had no problem driving in this year but have been in higher snow years and have to ski in that last half mile. This cabin is a little outdated, could use more cups and dishes, updates are being made and it adds to the charm. Electricity and running water (even a shower) is really nice.

The gate to enter public land was locked and the code provided did not work. No one answered the phone at the ranger district (it was Saturday) but no one called me back ever, either. So no cabin, but paid for it. Not cool.

Wonderful, super spacious kitchen with everything you could need! Hot water as well! Beds weren’t the most comfortable but it reminded me of trekking in Nepal, so it was still great! A bed is a bed! Wood stove kept the cabin super warm all night.

Pack rat is coming into the ceiling at night, and partying loudly. Wood stove needs instructions…

Great time at Fleecer! No problems getting there, the road was snow-free and dry. The redone bathroom is a nice improvement.

Really impressed by all the amenities at this cabin! My fiance and I accidentally left behind a cast iron Dutch oven in the refrigerator with leftover meatloaf in it :(
If anyone who is staying in this cabin lives in the Bozeman area, it would mean the world to me if you could bring it back this way! Even if you could bring it to the gate so we could swing through and pick it up without intruding on someone’s stay, that would be amazing. My fiancés phone number is (406) 579-2864.

This a luxury hotel of a FS cabin! 2 bedroom , LR with couch and chairs, and working kitchen with refrigerator, electric stove, microwave, coffee maker and pop up toaster. And Heat. There is even (or unfortunately) still good reception with Verizon. The place looks like it had a recent coat of paint and the indoor toilet and shower are clean! The mattresses are still FS level so bring a pad and your own bedding. Bring your own cleaning supplies, mugs and pots and pans. It is well stoked with knives and silverware and cutting boards. We had a lovely stay. Low snow year so we were still able to drive up to the cabin ad explore the area on foot. We saw no sign of anyone for 3 days. Would be great if folks really cleaned up after their dogs around the cabin.

Directions are unclear. Take the left fork in the road to go down to closed private property gate then just beyond that is the cabin. Looks like you might be heading out to big mansion on the hill but that is the rd to the cabin. Unfortunately there is no sign there to take the left fork rather than going up the hill to the right which is the more used path. Easy to miss.
