About Bloody Dick Cabin

Bloody Dick Cabin, named after the English Trapper Richard "Bloody" Leigh, is a small wood frame cabin. Nestled in the evergreens near Reservoir Lake in Southwestern Montana's Bitterroot Mountains - the cabin is available for rental year-round. Popularity peaks during the summer and fall seasons with hikers, ohv enthusiasts, and big game hunters. During spring and winter, the nearby lake freezes promoting ice fishing while several area winter trails offer cross-country skiing and snowmobiling. During the snow free season- the cabin is accessible by passenger vehicle, however some portions are gravel, dirt and rock, making it rough and slow going. Snow conditions limit mobility in the area. Depending on the snow levels, renters may need to travel up to 23 miles by snowmobile or skis to reach the cabin. Renters are responsible for their own travel arrangements and safety, and must bring several of their own amenities. There is no cell phone coverage in the area.

What Guests Are Saying

The Bloody Dick Cabin is situated in a beautiful and well-maintained setting, with new solar panels and electric lighting enhancing the experience. However, some guests reported issues such as a lack of running water, inadequate cleanliness, and missing basic supplies, which detracted from their stay. Despite these negatives, many appreciated the stunning area and the starry nights.

Great drive, great location, great cabin, lots of amenities left behind for future guests. We went up the back way from Dillon and got to the 2 mile sign and had to hike in due to snow drifts. It was all worth it.

This was our 4th year using this wonderful cabin. We are very pleased every time. The stove/oven works great and the beds are comfortable. It is a wonderful home base as we fish the creek and explore the surrounding area. We always buy and leave items for the next tenants - people just need to leave the items in the cabin and add more. We’ll be back next year! July, 2020.

We were unable to make it to the cabin. We drove 4 hours from Helena mt and made it to the last 4 miles and couldn’t walk in with a 10 month old baby and a puppy. This is a very important cabin to our family and we love it to the core. We are very disappointed that the snow plow stopped just outside of our area to get to the cabin.
