We love the forest service cabins and have stayed in many over the past 20+ years.
Hunters' spring is a beautiful setting and the area is also beautiful and fun to hike & ATV around
We were disappointed that the cabin has not had at least minimal maintenance performed. such as window screens.
every screen had large holes in them, that appeared many people have been trying to repair with duct tape and whatever other tape..
to cover them, this is not a big maintenance costs to replace screens etc.. we had a bat in the cabin..which is unfortunate
along with mice. which mice are something you deal with in these cabins.
awesome place, just would be nice to have NO bats...doesn't make for a restful night.
i would think the forest service agents who were all staying at the hotel in white sulphur springs could be out fixing the screens & the 3 inch gaps below the doors on the cabin, to keep the rodents/pests out. it wouldn't take much. thank you.

Refrigerator igniter didn’t work. A kind person left instructions for DIY. Got it going on day 2. Refrigerator was moldy and required cleaning. Best leave the door open so the inside dries out Pretty of firewood.

When our son's family got there (two days before we were to join them) they found the cabin a mess-- mouse turds EVERYWHERE, and mice running around in daytime hours. Window broken. Bird feathers wrapped in foil (my son thought it was an actual bird in there, given the stench in the place-- he attempted to remove it but started vomiting). This was after 1.5 hours of the family using bleach wipes to wipe down everything, from counters to floors, to bedding, to fridge ....
They then ended up just leaving the place without staying, and let us know to not bother going up there, ruining a family get-together that had been planned since last year.
I called the Forest Service and they did a great job of getting up there ASAP to take care of things as best they could, so the next renters would (hopefully) have a good stay.
I hope to stay in this neat-looking cabin sometime in the future!

as with all the cabins i have rented over the years they are awesome and much appreciated. the one issue especially with the hunter spring cabin is that it is literally overrun with mice. these mice are pros, they eat the cheese right off the trap without tripping it. there are dozens of them and they dont' care if you see them or not. this is a potential health issue for sure. i understand all the hygiene practices that should be embrassed no matter where you are but this cabin is the epicenter of rodentville. there has to be a way to greatly reduce or eliminate there access and presence. I doubt i will rent this one again unless there are changes.

The cabin is nice & comfortable but you might want to take a lantern or 2 propane lights do not work that good anymore. Hopefully some money is set aside for much needed upkeep before it’s to late

The cabinet is comfortable lighting is not the greatest. But it works, woodstove works great definitely keep you warm. The road going into the cabin is terrible from the highway all the way to the cabin. There are a lot of things to see and roads to drive or use a four wheeler on
