About White Earth Campground

White Earth Group Use Shelter is located at White Earth Campground, just east of the town of Winston, Montana, on Canyon Ferry Reservoir. In 1805, the Lewis and Clark expedition passed through this region. On July 22, 1805, Sacagawea recognizes the country and assures the men that the three forks of the Missouri were of no great distance. This news gave the expedition hope in the anticipation of soon reaching the headwaters of the Missouri River.

We stayed only to sleep but had a nice spot over the water. It wasn’t crowded and the other guests were good - no crazy parties.

The place was clean and the bathrooms super clean! Water available to fill up the tanks. Nice boat launch. The only thing we really did not like it that it was so hot and dry and we brought quite a bit of the "white earth" home with us. It was in everything, thick dust. Not a lot of grass really.
Despite that I would stay there again. Beautiful area.

Very nice spot by the lake. It was a quick stop over for us on a long road trip, but would be great for anyone wanting to boat/fish/ etc. Also not too far from Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons.

Camphost was very nice. Our dog loved chasing his ball in the water. Would, of course, liked to have a dump site on property. Too bad the county road going in is so much washboard.

General

  • All campsites are to be considered single unit sites unless marked as a double site. Single campsites are limited to one camping / sleeping unit per campsite. An exception will be made for parents with young children; Parents may have one additional tent for children under the age of 18.
  • Personal property used to reserve campsites, including RVs and tents will be removed in accordance with 43 CFR Part 423.23.
  • RVs, vehicles and trailers must be parked on the gravel/pavement and within designated areas of the campsite or established parking area provided.
  • Pets must be physically constrained by a leash under 6' in length or a structure. Do not leave pets left unattended. It is your responsibility to clean up after your own pet.
  • Be considerate of other campers. Activities and noise should be kept to a level that does not disturb other campers. Generators are not allowed during quiet hours. The use of loud, profane, or abusive language or music is prohibited.
  • No electrical source for camp trailers or RVs is available at shelters.
  • Price of shelter includes five designated campsites.
  •  No show reservations are subject to cancellation after the third night.
  • Campsites must be occupied each night
  • While at Canyon Ferry Reservoir:  CLEAN, DRAIN, DRY boats and any other recreational equipment that comes in contact with water. Never dump unwanted bait, worms, fish parts or other organisms into the water. For more information visit https://www.invasivespeciesinfo.gov/  STOP THE SPREAD OF INVASIVE SPECIES. REMOVE plants, seeds, animals and mud from boots, gear, pets, and vehicle. CLEAN your gear before entering and leaving the recreation site. STAY on designated roads and trails and use local firewood.
