About West Fork of Rock Creek Cabin (MT)

The West Fork of Rock Creek Cabin is located on the western edge of the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest and is open for reservations year-round. It is a large cabin that provides a great experience in the mountains of southwestern Montana. The cabin offers access to numerous trails and wildlife viewing, as well as a comfortable place to picnic and spend the nights. The West Fork of Rock Creek is located just behind the cabin and is great spot to go fishing or take a quick dip to cool off in the warm summer months. There are three cabins at the site, which was once used as a Forest Service Guard Station and later as a youth camp. Only the large cabin has been restored and is available to the public. The smaller cabins are damaged and are not currently available to rent. The site can typically be accessed by vehicle, depending on conditions. Excessive snowfall may require renters to walk about 200 yards from the plowed highway to the cabin. Guests are responsible for their own travel arrangements and safety, and must bring all of their own amenities.  This is a historic structure and is brought to you as a rental by the US Forest Service Historical Preservation Committee, the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest and the Pintler Ranger District. Please help us keep it nice for future generations and respect the historic nature of this cabin.

This ranger station is AMAZING! It’s hard to believe a place like this even exists. The cabin was great and stayed warm. It has electricity, refrigerator, oven and stove. We brought our travel trailer and there was so much room for it. My girls loved exploring. Highly recommend.

Magnificent views, beautiful solitude, Birds were out in force, loving this spring weather. Didn't get to see any big game but certainly found signs of recent activity. Bear and Moose scat, prints in the mud. The water was too high for me to fish comfortably but there were some good looking bends and pools within walking distance of the cabin. Fun property to explore - just make a bit of noise :)
The cabin is well stocked to include extra sheets, pillows. The mattress was better than most I've stayed in but there are no double or queen beds. All singles and a trundle bed (which was very comfortable).

Plenty of room for 3 adults. Snow was mostly melted & had been plowed into the cabin. We did not see any wildlife as mentioned in the guest logbook except for a large group of deer on the hillside across the road. Firewood was plentiful & we filled the outdoor wood box for the next guests. Windows had not been cleaned for quite a while, so we began working on them as time permitted. Mattresses were comfortable. We brought our own sleeping bags and blankets having not expected that sheets would be on the beds. Didn't know if they were clean or not as no instructions about handling them were not around. Enjoyed all the comforts of plenty of comfortable chairs, couch, lamps, tables, donated sideboard, etc & large refrigerator. Kitchen was well provisioned with pots, pans, cutlery of all kinds & seemingly quite new as well as well cared for. It was the perfect location for our family to relax, visit & enjoy country so different from where we live in Idaho and Washington. Loved Philipsburg. We hope to be back!
