About Rising Sun Campground

Rising Sun Campground is located just west of St. Mary and halfway along St. Mary Lake. Campers at Rising Sun will enjoy beautiful sunrises in the morning with Red Eagle Mountain as a backdrop, and the campground serves as a convenient base camp to many day hikes located east of Logan Pass. Some sites are open, allowing for cool breezes throughout the day, while others are located among trees, accommodating those seeking some shade and privacy. Access to St. Mary Lake can be found at the Rising Sun Picnic Area, across the Going-to-the-Sun-Road from the campground.During peak summer season, nearby Rising Sun day use area offers lodging, a restaurant, camp store/gift shop, picnic area, and boat tours. Shower facilities may be available at the Rising Sun Motor Inn for a fee. Rising Sun Campground is typically open from early June to early September. During its open season, the campground is located within the Moutain Daylight Time zone (MDT).

Great campsite and camp host. Only complaint is that I called Glacier National Park to check on how to book first come first serve campsites and was told I need to be there in person to book. When I got to the campground I was told I had to reserve online. There is no service at the campground so I had to drive out to where I have service to book the campsite.

Space was nice. Table was clean. Pit provided. We were situated right next to another campsite (separated by a rock fence) which was not ideal but we could’ve scoped the area out better. In order to book this campsite anywhere you have to show up day of and book online. There is no service at the campground so you have to retrace your steps back to the Lake Mary Visitors center. There’s got to be an easier way to do this?! Bathrooms were also a bit dingy. The nice perk was most sites had their own clean water spout. Great location✅ great view ✅. Otherwise not too many perks.

The campground was great. The presentation at the amphitheater was really good. The camp host was very helpful and provided assistance in the online registration process. The online registration process creates a problem because wifi is not accessible onsite without staff assistance.

We were worried there might be noisy generators as we couldn’t get a spot in the generator free loop. But it was very quiet and peaceful with an inspiring view.

Nice spot. Got a little service on tracfone. Host Carrie was awesome. So much fun chatting with her about the bears that live near the campground. Be sure to keep a clean camp and if you’re on a hard sided only side be sure your keep the doors locked and the food secure! Lots of bears!!
