About Cabin Creek Cabin

Cabin Creek Cabin is a primitive, rustic, single-room structure that was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s. It offers a few basic amenities, so guests will need to bring most of their own supplies and gear to ensure an enjoyable experience. Cabin Creek Cabin is closed during the spring season due to weather and trail conditions. The cabin is open during the summer, fall, and winter months; June to March. Guests are responsible for their own travel arrangements and safety, and they must bring several of their own amenities. Please be aware that the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Forest Service is not cleaning this rental cabin between user visits. To protect health and safety for all cabin visitors, we recommend you clean all "high touch surfaces" when you arrive and before you leave. Cleaning supplies are not provided; you are expected to bring your own. Leave nothing behind - pack it in, pack it out. Please take any garbage, food, books, and personal items with you. Immediately report any unsanitary conditions to the local Ranger Station.

What Guests Are Saying

The Cabin Creek Cabin is a clean and well-equipped space with stunning views in a beautiful location. Guests appreciated the wood supply and the cabin's charm. However, some noted the need for clearer information about water availability and the trail conditions, as well as a lingering odor that required airing out.

We snowmobiled in and used the cabin as a warm spot, brought our chainsaw in and cut a bunch of wood for others to burn.

It's a very nice cabin. It was clean AND had a wood supply, for which we were very grateful, as we got in late. The view, as reported by others, is stunning.

A beautiful old cabin. Everything necessary was there, and no problems.

The cabin is in a lovely location with wonderful views. It would have been helpful if the cabin description or local office staff could have given specific information about the location and condition of the available water. Also, it would have been nice to know that the hike from the trail junction into the cabin was significant downhill on the way in.

Stunningly beautiful area! Loved the view as well as the quiet. Cabin was great just a little dark. Someone must have sprayed something in the cabin as we kept coughing and the group before us said they kept sneezing. Had to open it up to air it out and I stirred it all up again when I swept. Loved it all!

My husband and our daughters had a great time! We stayed in early August, and the weather was great! It had been raining the previous few days, but we enjoyed sunny and breezy weather. There was a thunderstorm overnight, but we were comfortable inside the cabin. We had a campfire and a small fire in the indoor campstove to keep us warm enough overnight. We saw two grizzly bears in a distant meadow upon our arrival. There were also many chipmunks, squirrels and birds near the cabin. The views were amazing! The wildflowers were beautiful! We needed to a bit of tidying up upon our arrival, dirty and dusty inside. The outhouse was in acceptable condition. We dirtbiked in, and it took us just under 1 hour from the parking area (7 miles of ATV trail and 1 mile of singletrack). We had to take two trips to pack in and pack out, the trails were fairly challenging, rocky, steep and muddy at times. So about 3 hours total travel time. Very fun and memorable! We would definitely recommend staying at Cabin Creek Cabin.

The Cabin Creek Forest Service cabin is a great place to stay. The views to the West of the Madison range if phenomenal as are the night sky views. We took in an electric chainsaw to supplement the wood supply and water from the Middle Fork of Cabin Creek was readily available. Celebrated my 83rd birthday there. But in this dry year didn't see any elk.

This was our first time to Cabin Creek Cabin, and we had a fantastic time. The cabin is well stocked with cleaning supplies, cooking utensils, plates, cups, brooms, axe, saw, camping chair, etc. the sleeping cots can get a bit cold and hard, so I added one of the closed foam pads provided. However, the cots squeak, and there were plenty of complaints in the logbook of poor nights sleep. The cabin was clean, the screen door was great to allow airflow but also keep out the bugs. There’s plenty of firewood.

Not a lot of help or maintenance from FS local office. Pretty typical in this district. Every other district we’ve stayed in does a better job.
