Your camp hosts are amazing. We loved our camp site. Trails were fun. Adding more 50 amp hookups should be priority.

The Bessey Recreation Complex is praised for its spacious and clean campsites, well-maintained facilities, and friendly staff. Many visitors enjoyed the beautiful hiking trails, fishing opportunities, and the overall serene environment, especially during weekdays when it was quieter. However, noise from nearby trains and ATVs can be disruptive, particularly on weekends, and some reviewers noted cleanliness issues in the showers and bathrooms. Overall, it's considered a hidden gem for campers seeking a rustic experience in the Nebraska Sandhills.

Trails need to be one way as it is dangerous having 2 way traffic in many spots. We had 2 incidents while visiting. Place has potential to be safe and great simply needs designated trail directions.

Our campsite was amazing. Had space between sites not on top of each other. But kids on 4 wheelers kept circling the campsite. Got very annoying. Never did see the camp host .

Amazing campground. Staff were helpful and friendly! While it is quiet and pretty remote, there is a train the sounds its horn and its popular with OTVs. This didn’t bother me but might someone else. It was clean and peaceful and it’s pretty cool to be in the sand hills and then BAM! All of a sudden a forest!

We stayed in site 31 with electric. This is a clean campground with lots of room between sites. It's very quiet except for the train noise nearby. Meh, no big deal. Burwell is an adorable little community and is worth the hour drive.

We were only there for 1 night on the way to the Black Hills and 1 night coming home as that was halfway. It was a gem in the middle of our trip. The campground is very nice with electric hookups for the hot humid nights and nice shower houses. The river that runs by the campground is beautiful rolling through the Sandhills and the numerous trains are loud but you get used to them pretty quick. There are a couple of hiking trails and a lot utv traffic. The people were very friendly and it was busy both times we stayed there.

Overall great stay. Showers & ports potties always are in need of cleaning, but it’s to be expected I guess!? Would be nice to have disposable hand towels or air dryers to dry your hands if just going to the bathroom in the shower house.

Nice camping sites that are well maintained and shaded, which is necessary in the heat of the summer.

Nice park. Clean restrooms and showers.
Recommend to the park service to trim trees higher up. Almost all camp sites campers rub tree branches backing in. Make sure you check the length guide on each site. Most sites are small.
