Red Rock Canyon Campground

Really easy access to this site and close to restrooms. The site was very clean.

I love RRCNCA but the campground has never been in the best location for views. Nevertheless, the drive in and out has gorgeous views. It's nice that most sites now have gazebos to protect from the sun. Though it was only March--I stayed for 13 nights--I happened to be there during a 2-week heatwave in the walk-in sites with no sun protection. I had to leave camp shortly after sun-up and return only after sundown.

For the walk-in sites, they are so close, you can hear every moan, grown, cough, snore, burp, etc. of the other campers. And I was wearing good earplugs. I did like that there were 2 separate restroom buildings equidistant from the camp space.

Most nights and mornings, most everyone observed the quiet hours of 10 pm to 6 am, which was great. A few times, people did not, but responded politely when asked to quiet down by others. Even the noisier people were nice--no drinking--families having fun, young people from high school having fun but phoning their dads and also discussing AP classes with classmates.

I did however, notice people camping in their camper trucks and vans in the walk-in camp parking, where signs read No Camping. I also noticed one night in the RV camp lot a big tent with a van next to it, but the rules indicate that no tents are permitted back there. Personally, I would have loved to set up my big tent back there, where it would have been far quieter during sleep hours.

On my part, I felt bad that after many days, I realized I may have been set up in the wrong site--even though I set up in broad daylight. It was a little confusing because the sites are so close to each other and are asymmetrically shaped. I didn't seem to cause any issues as there did not seem to be a single night where walk-in camping was completely full. And truly, I was grateful that openings were available so that I didn't have to stay out at Lake Mead the entire time. It would have been much hotter and made travel times longer.

This is the third time we've spent a night at this campground. Though a very open campground the sites are spaced far enough apart that you don't feel as though you are just in a parking lot. The pit toilets are kept clean and even have a light inside for night. Only complaint is it has no directional signs indicating what site numbers are down each lane.
