What Guests Are Saying

Lost River Valley Campground has a great location near activities in the White Mountains and offers easy check-in with well-functioning full hookups. However, the campground is in need of significant maintenance, including dirty bathrooms, a neglected playground, and poor road conditions. While some guests enjoyed their stay and found the atmosphere pleasant, many expressed disappointment in the lack of upkeep and amenities, suggesting potential for improvement.

We often find ourselves at different camp sites. This year we rented a single room cabin number 20 on the lost river. We decided our new pup would do best glamping than camping. This campground is right on 112, just around the corner from Lost River Gorge and Beaver Pond. The campground is very large and very clean, staff was very pleasant as well as other campers. Our Luke made some new friends. . Cabin was a perfect size for us, if you have very small children I wouldn’t recommend the sites right on the lost river unless you are on #76 and higher, the cliff to the river is very dangerously high, or stay on the walker brook side.

A few things would be nice to be refreshed, bathrooms are out dated and need of paint and new toilets, the swimming pond…I wouldn’t put my toes in there….this pond should be turned into a fishing pond, a lot of salamanders, baby fish and tadpoles. Water is pretty gross. If you want to swim, swim in the river.

Overall our experience was wonderful and I would return.
If you are staying in one of these cabins some tips: bring a power strip, bring a rain fly, tarp or canopy as you can not cook on the porch.

I enjoyed the walk around the grounds, swimming, very quiet and enjoyed watching all the kids enjoying the outdoors and having fun. The store is very well stocked. I do recommend this campsite.

To start with the positive. The sites were easy to back in check in was easy after hours, full hook ups worked just fine.

The negative the road to the "mountain view" campsites is washed out and near impassable. The only mountain virw is when traversing the horrendous road. I do understand we have some rain it there are like 10 cabins and as many RV sites that people need to get to you need to fix the road. We had to put the truck in 4 wheel drive to get up the slope.

The "mountain view" campsites are far from campground amenities which we did not use, so I can't speak to that. But I do know you have to cross the road to get there.

They also mentioned very dark skies but the cabins all have outdoor lights on them. Also the campsites are neglected not weedwacked this year at all and there is a gigantic not yet burned burn pile at the top of the camping area with boxes and pile of debris in it.

I probably will not be back.

This campground is in need of some serious work. The website makes this campground look much better than it is. The bathrooms are gross. The bridge getting into the campground looks questionable at best. The playground is falling apart, the train and pirate ship have seen better days. The little swimming pond (if that's what you want to call it) was gross. The beach was non existent its just road wash out and completely over grown. The grass was so high at the playground it was tick central. The other playground is just a blow up play house and one climbing structure and also wasnt trimmed or cut. This place is in need of some serious work but has potential. If you have your own camper with a bathroom i think its worth staying at if you're looking for a cheaper stay in the white mountain area. Lost river caves are 3 minute ride up the road and Lincoln and the kanc are 5 minutes away. I would not stay here again because the bathrooms are just disgusting there's no other way to put it. The staff was nice at check in but had no idea how to guide me to my campsite. They had a tough time telling me which way to go to get there. The arcade was ok but the pool table is broken which is something we were looking forward to playing. Hopefully they can make some upgrades soon because the place does have potential to be a nice campground.

The campground is in a good location central to lots of activities in the white mountains. It was a shame that it was so run down because it could be an excellent campground. The sites were good but in general the entire campground was rundown and dirty. They also advertise an activity calendar which was never provided and they do not have any activities going on at the campground at all.

The playground was not “modern” at all and is not maintained I was worried about my children playing on it and getting splinters or hurt. It’s also on the other side of a very busy road from the campground.

The swimming pond was full of leaches and was swampy and dirty. You cannot fish in the swimming pond. You also cannot fish in the rivers.

Don’t bother packing fishing poles or swim suits.

The bathrooms were not cleaned regularly and when I asked if they’d clean them they told me their cleaner had the day before and today off. Not cleaning at all for two days in a row at a campground is not acceptable. The bathrooms a were filthy and moldy.

The camp store had limited items and was not open for the hours you’d expect (9-5 only so don’t expect a late night snack or morning coffee).

They advertise laundry onsite but the laundry room was closed with an ashtray blocking the door and a sign saying that the laundry room was out of order. They clearly have been out of order for a long time and they do not have plans to put them back in service. I would recommend Homerun laundromat in town which we used twice.

We ended up leaving early because we were just done especially with the dirtiness of it.

There was no security for the campground anyone could just drive right in. The bridge at the entrance was dangerous as well and had holes in it as well as many other spots that had shady repairs. Even their sign is falling over.

There is also a very sketchy trail going up the hill on loop road that had about 5 signs saying do not trespass and keep out and you can just barley see a holding tank at the top. Makes us wonder what they’re keeping up there.

I would not recommend anyone stay here.

This campground was the worst I have ever been to in my 55 years. Needs major up keep. Roads need work, bathrooms are disgusting never cleaned, playground is across a 55 mph road cross at your own risk. A swimming hole filled with large leeches is were youare suppose to swim and rent kayaks in boats, not big enough to even do this in. Basically a dried up river. Don't expect to go tubing or fishing. There is no maintenance. People don't seem to want to work here and maintain this campground. It's too bad it could be a nice campground. If it was taken care of. I feel the owner should take some hospitality classes and learn how to treat people. Especially those people who are paying to stay at this dump hole. Don't waste your money and go here. Just my opinion.
