Rio De Las Vacas Campground is praised for its beautiful setting, recent renovations, and well-maintained sites surrounded by pine trees, offering a peaceful and clean environment. Many visitors appreciated the hiking opportunities and the campground's proximity to Albuquerque. However, some guests experienced issues like bee infestations at specific sites, lack of a campground host, and noise from generators and animals. Using the website to book was very difficult I ended up paying for booking fees three times for our site . And wasn’t able to apply our senior discount. So it cost a lot more than it should have to book extra days. You should know that the feds website books by number of days while the state website books by the number of nights. They should explain that somewhere on the booking screen. Confusing to those of us that book both places.

That being said said, the campgrounds were very nice and Steve the camp host was friendly and very helpful. The bathrooms are clean and the trash in the containers are picked up daily. This site is family friendly not a rowdy place. There is lots of places to walk/hike. Lots of pine 🌲 trees and aspens. Very relaxing 😎.

The website was not user friendly. Thought booked for two nights and it was only booked for one. The camp host was not anywhere to be found the day we arrived or friendly the following day

It was a great time. I just wish parents knew how to control their kids screaming more at night and in the later hours of the day, That got a little annoying.

This is a beautiful campground with a Rio running through it. There is a nice hiking trail at one end. There are only two restroom facilities and neither were near our site. The restrooms had the worst smell of any we have stayed at in the last five years. Definitely has its pros and cons for tent campers.
