We experienced a wonderful week at campground while taking day trips to Santa Fe and several other places of interest. It offers a beautiful view from all campsites and quiet, relaxing moments just enjoying the scenery. We loved the campground so much, that after touring upper part of New Mexico, we stayed an additional week on our return trip to Tucson AZ. we plan on going back again for a longer stay.

This was my first experience camping at a corps campground and I was pleasantly surprised. We plan on making more use of these in the near future!

We love camping at Cochiti because it is convenient at only a 1 hour drive from our home in Albuquerque, we have a choice of dry camping with electricity or sites with both water and electricity and there are 2 dump stations on site (3 units can dump simultaneously. There is a great view of the lake and surrounding mountains. The sites are spaced nicely. There is moderate hiking through the 4 camping areas. You want air conditioning in the summer because the altitude is 1 mile high.

Cochiti Lake Recreation Area is a Corps of Engineer campground with several loops. We did not have reservations, but were able to get into the Juniper Loop without one in mid- October. ( the campground closed for the season a couple days after we arrived). Nice sites, with electric and water. Big rigs may have difficulty with some of the sites in this loop, but overall, a nice quiet campground. The bathroom in our loop was closed for remodeling, but it was an easy walk to get to another one . Nice hot showers! The lake at this time of year was tainted with algae, so swimming was not an option.

Some sites have spectacular views, but with the trade off of uneven, sloping and smaller sites (for larger units)
Near by restrooms were closed and looked like they have been closed for a very long time
Showers were very nice in the loop by the lake, folks were friendly, lots to do and see; Tent Rocks is close by
Be sure to arrive very early, as it fills fast
Over all a good place to camp
