Black Bear RV Park

Stayed for 12 days including July 4th weekend. Park is small and does not have amenities. It is gated, beautiful and very peaceful. We have 2 dogs who are petrified of fireworks. Camp rules forbid them on the property but other places frequently let them be used on 7/4. Black Bear put out an email on 7/2 reminding all guests of the policy and inviting us to a nearby community display. The campground remained quiet and peaceful. We enjoyed our stay and already have a future reservation. Very friendly and helpful staff.

Great place for camping! It’s cool, peaceful, and easy to access. If you love nature, trees, and birds, you’ll really enjoy it here. I will definitely be back again and again. Highly recommended!

This campground was a convenient location for our visit to the lower Hudson Valley. It is only about an hour and fifteen minutes to New York City, so it could even be used as a base for visits there. It was quiet, and clean. There are no amenities nor on-site staff.
The campground is recently under new ownership, and is now called Serenity Ridge Mountain Club. What had been the upper campground is being transformed into a "luxury park model resort." It will be interesting to see what happens to the RV campground. Hopefully, it will remain, and maybe even get some updates. It would be a shame if its days were numbered, since there are not many options in this part of the world.

Details:
We stayed on site 20, back-in FHU, 50/30/20 pedestal tall enough for Watchdog to clear ground, water, 4" threaded sewer.
Water pressure varies from on the low side of okay to low.
Utilities are toward the front of the site, but I had to back toward the rear of the site because it is more level toward the rear, so I had to use the extensions for both the electrical and the water, and multiple 10' sections of sewer hose.
Toward the rear of the site, level enough to allow auto-leveling with nothing under the tires.
Gravel with grass / weeds growing up through it.
Spacing was snug on the awning side; with our awning extended, it went right to the edge of the adjacent site. Spacing is very generous on the other side.
Water faucet is 1/4 turn and is low to the ground.

The odd numbered sites in our section are on the uphill side of the road so they slope down toward the front.
The even numbered on in our section are on the downside side of the road so they slope down toward the rear.
Big rig friendly.
OTA TV: 2 France 24, one english, one french, old movies, shopping, that's about it. No PBS, no major networks.

There are a number of restaurants in nearby Florida, and just about anything you would need within a twenty minute drive.

We drove our camper from Tampa, Florida to Florida, NY never having stayed at Black Bear having grown up nearby. But what an incredible place to be! Convenient to local friends and family, and a bus ride into the city, what really struck us was the professional, immaculate and scenic aspects of the campground - and the warm and responsive nature of the owner, Thomas.

Several local friends and family members visited us there and it truly became a home away from home. And there are a lot of great places to see nearby! Of all the campsites we visited over our long trek northward and back again, including several KOA’s, Black Bear was truly the diamond of our long trek. The summer weather was refreshing for us, still the electric service was perfect - no problem with the AC.

Missing the fall foliage having grown up nearby, I would love to return in the autumn, or even the winter, knowing that Black Bear has hookups for even the coldest days. I cannot recommend this park enough but hesitate to help oversell it so much so that the next time we want to visit, there won’t be room for us! Enjoy!!
