My wife and I decided to stay for an extended weekend at off-peak season time. (Early april) we had the entire place to ourselves as no one else was elrenting the other cabin( we stayed in ski lodge). The owner was very quick to respond with any of our questions. The cabin was very nice inside the fridge, electric stove, microwave, coffee pot, and toaster were all on site as well as plenty of box fans. This trip was just my wife and I, so the main room was more than enough. My wife and i were both, however, not fans of the bed. The deck was wonderful to use to stare out at the lake/pond the fire pit was nice however we had alot of rain the week prior to usem being there and we seen about an inch and a half while we were there. I was able to, however, get a fire going with the wood that was for sale there a great price.

No bears on out visit be we did however see a pair of bald eagles across the pond by the barn a few deer, tons of geese and ducks and even a BEAVER swam up from the creek and swam about 2 feet away on his hunt for snacks.

It seemed the neighborhood kids came and used the playground area, but we're respectful and kept the playtime to that playground.

We heard roosters, cows, and possibly a donkey.

The road in is a back road to thunder rocks at alleghany, but I will advise it's a seasonal road. I have traveled it many times in my jeep, but don't go taking a Ford focus up that way!

To me, even with it being very rainy, we had a great stay in the ski lodge (just missing an indoor fireplace and warm weather)

You will never find a nicer host than Keith, hands down. I can't say enough to praise him.
But I will warn you that the beds in Moose Cabin are very hard, so if you like a softer bed, be sure to bring something like an inflatable mattress or mattress pillow top.
Also, if you have any mobility issues (bad knee/leg), then using the side door will be a challenge as the handrail is on the wrong side to use when the screen door is open to enter/leave (the door blocks the handrail).
And the top step into the cabin is way higher than normal, making it difficult for knee/leg issues to get into the cabin and to leave. Maybe using the lakeside sliding doors is better, I didn't think to try that way.
Please note that the heat works great but there's no AC - it's a cabin, not a hotel. There are fans of some type in every room and windows that open.
The big truck traffic noise from the nearby 4 lane highway is heard at night, and the nearby train tracks (by law) makes the train blow its horn at both crossing points - so you'll hear the loud horn twice as the train passes by behind the trees behind the RV pads being built. This happens once during the night and again during the day. Running a fan in your room will cover the noise of both train and traffic.

No power first 24 hours and 20 degrees due to extreme weather conditions but owner and his associate took care of me and the family with consistent updates and checking; both on phone and in person. Spent time enjoying mother nature and playing games with family. A much needed disconect! Other days skied holiday valley as it was only 25 minutes away. Perfect and will probably return!

We booked a benefit there and we got double booked. I left 2 stars due to the fact Keith made sure we ended up at the limestone fire hall. But I had a guest at our benefit who also said they have been double booked there. Honestly I just hope they come up with a better system if the wife and husband are booking parties separate. Honestly I'm the type I get screwed over once I won't be doing business there again. Sorry🤷‍♀️

We love coming here and using the driving range where you get to hit golf balls into the water. It’s a cheap way to get out of the house and enjoy some fun family time! There is also a playground with big enclosed slides and some swings and trucks to play with in the pebbles! My little one loves it!

A large basket of golf balls is $10 and the smaller baskets are $5.
