Visited mid-October and almost every site had standing water. We were fortunate to have a small area just big enough to pitch the tent, but otherwise it was also flooded. There is a notice regarding the issue on the website, which of course, we did not see until after booking. But then wondered why they even accepted the reservation. We were one of about 12 in the entire campground. Most others slept in the vehicles.

Camping happened to be flooded upon arrival.
We got a windy/stormy day, and the camping is very exposed to wind.
Flooding only got worse.
Location is great, facilities are good.
Cell coverage is good.

Most sites are full of water so you have to check for a dry one before you reserve which makes the new online reservation totally pointless. Very quiet campground, slept til 11am no problem

Nice Campground most convenient to beach ramps for fishing the point. A little disappointing that there are no campfire rings, so no campfires allowed. That's part of camping, especially tents.

Great place to camp unless theres a lot of rain. Some of the sites flood but the park is very good about blocking those sites on reservation site so you dont end up booking a flooded site. The restrooms are updated and top notch ! Sites are spacious and very open with great views and excellent access to beach for fishing. My son and I come every fall with rv trailer and love it especially for the price .

There is NO HOT WATER in the showers and NO LIGHTING. The online registration process was a hassle. I finally had to call and was told campsites were reserved that were not being used. We stayed on row K and there was only one other camper on that row and they were 8 campsites away from us. I am rating a 1 because I have to. The nicest thing about this site is that it was clean.

Overall experience was good, but had 3 days of h6 or h8 campsite running there generator all night. We reported but nothing was done about it.

Great time... Rangers were nice, campground was well laid out, only thing I didn’t like was the fact we didn’t have fire rings and couldn’t have a campfire

Loved the campground, the restrooms were clean and quick access to the beach. It did rain in the middle of the night and our lot had a little standing water so it would be helpful to know which lots tend to be drier than others when it rains. Overall we had a great experience.

North (From Richmond, VA)
Follow I-95 South to Richmond, VA. Take I-64 East toward Norfolk/Virginia Beach, VA. Take I-64 or I-664 to Chesapeake, VA. From I-64, take Exit 291B to Route 168, the Chesapeake Expressway (a toll-road costing $3.00 - $6.00 each way). Once in North Carolina, Route 168 turns into US-158 East. Follow US-158 East through Nags Head, NC to the junction of NC-12 South. Continue on NC-12 South until you reach the village of Buxton. Signs for Cape Hatteras Lighthouse and Cape Point Campground will be on your left. Follow Lighthouse Road until you reach Cape Point Campground on your right.
West (From Rocky Mount, NC)
Follow US-64 East through Tarboro, Williamston, Plymouth, Columbia, and Manteo, crossing the Alligator River Bridge and the Virginia Dare Bridge. Keep going on US-64 East to Nags Head, NC, going over the Washington Baum Bridge, to the junction of NC-12 South. Turn right onto NC-12 South and you will be at the north entrance. Continue on NC-12 South until you reach the village of Buxton. Signs for Cape Hatteras Lighthouse and Cape Point Campground will be on your left. Follow Lighthouse Road until you reach Cape Point Campground on your right.
South (From Florence, SC)
Take I-95 North to Wilson, NC. Take US-264 East through Greenville, NC and Washington, NC. From Washington, NC, take US-17 to Williamston and follow US-64 East to Nags Head, NC and the junction of NC-12 South. Continue on NC-12 South until you reach the village of Buxton. Signs for Cape Hatteras Lighthouse and Cape Point Campground will be on your left. Follow Lighthouse Road until you reach Cape Point Campground on your right.

Policies & Rules
General
- The campground is in a low lying area that floods easily after a heavy rain. Reservations may be canceled with limited notice.
- Camping is limited to a total of 14 days of camping between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Making reservations under another name or account to circumvent the 14 day restriction is prohibited.
- Generators must be turned off during quiet hours.
- Wood fires are not permitted in the campground. Only charcoal cooking fires are permitted in a grill, stove or other self-contained unit.
- A fire may be ignited and maintained only by using fuel sources designed and commonly used for warmth or the preparation of food, such as charcoal briquettes or natural firewood. Lighting or maintaining a fire with other materials including, but not limited to, flammable liquids, garbage, fireworks, plastics, aerosol canisters, batteries, or other manufactured or synthetic materials, is prohibited.
- There is a limit of 6 persons per site, a maximum of 2 cars, or 1 car and 1 trailer, and a maximum of two tents.
- Pets are welcome but must be on a 6' leash at all times. Electronic collars are not considered a leash. Pet excriment must be picked up and disposed of in trash recepticles.
- Biting insects are prevalent in the summer months, therefore netting and repellent are recommended.
- All equipment must fit on the site pad; large RVs over 25 feet may have to park second vehicles in auxiliary parking away from the campground, or purchase an additional campsite. Vehicles cannot park on the grass.
- All campsites are exposed and subject to weather extremes. There are no shaded sites in the campground.
- The Access Pass and both the Senior Annual and Senior Lifetime Pass are the only passes that provide a discount on the fee for the campsite physically occupied by the pass owner, not to any additional campsite(s) occupied by members of the pass owner's party. The discount does not apply to utility hookups. The pass discount must be applied at the time of the reservation; it cannot be applied retroactively.
