Frisco Campground on Hatteras ISLAND has one of the most beautiful beaches on the Atlantic coast. the campground is quiete and the facilities, while old, are kept clean. Access to the beach itself is fine as there are several boardwalks to go over the sand dunes. The campsites are kept clean.

This was our second visit to the Frisco Campground. It provides great beach access with private campsites. If you’re able to “dry camp” and love the beach, this is the place for you!

The site is great. We parked the camper van on the pad. There is a trail down into the woods that could fit 2-3 tents. The bathrooms and showers are close and clean. The trailhead for beach trail is close. Sure there are mosquitoes and it was ripping hot - but that's what you get in August.

This is an awesome campground! If you’re camping in the summer, to make your experience the best it can be, you need to:
1. Have a plan and tools to keep cool in your tent or camper since there are no generators allowed during quiet hours, 10 PM - 8 AM; and
2. Have a way to ward off the mosquitoes—which will eat you alive:/
The stars are incredibly vivid at this location given the lack of light pollution and the campground’s position on the east coast.

This was our first time staying here, and the campsite itself was really nice. There were a lot of mosquitoes, which was expected for this time of year. Our rating would have been higher, but we had a very unpleasant experience on our last day.
On the morning we were scheduled to check out at noon, a man came to our campsite around 9:30 a.m. and asked if we were about to leave. We told him no, and he began complaining that a park ranger had told him the site was available. We explained that we had the site reserved, that checkout wasn't until noon, and that check-in for new guests wasn't until 3:00 p.m. He eventually left (or so we thought).
About 15 minutes later, a park ranger came by and asked if we planned on checking out. We told her yes, at noon. At that point, we were confused as to why the ranger seemed unaware of the campground's check-in and checkout times, as well as who was assigned to each campsite. This was even more puzzling because each site had the reservation holder's name posted. Then, about 20 minutes later, another man approached our campsite complaining that someone was in the site across from ours. He was visibly upset and acting strangely, to the point that it made both me and my children uncomfortable.
We had planned to start making breakfast before all of this began, but by the time everything was over, we had run out of time and felt flustered by the entire situation. As we were packing up and preparing to leave, the first man who had approached us earlier appeared to be waiting down the road. As soon as we pulled out of our campsite, he immediately drove in and took the site, despite the fact that check-in wasn't until 3:00 p.m., which was still hours away.
The whole situation creeped us out, and we were left feeling extremely uncomfortable by the experience.

This is a great campground in terms of proximity to the beach, privacy of indiviudal campsites, and how many sites have coverage amongst the live oaks.

Great campsites with plenty of privacy. Running water and flush toilets are a plus. Good beach access for both walking and driving. Great place to relax and unwind. I will coming back soon.

North (From Richmond, VA)
Follow I-95 South to Richmond, VA. Take I-64 East toward Norfolk/Virginia Beach, VA. Take I-64 or I-664 to Chesapeake, VA. From I-64, take Exit 291B to Route 168, the Chesapeake Expressway (a toll-road costing $3.00 - $6.00 each way). Once in North Carolina, Route 168 turns into US-158 East. Follow US-158 East through Nags Head, NC to the junction of NC-12 South. Continue on NC-12 South through the villages of Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, and Buxton. Once you reach Frisco take a left on Billy Mitchell Road and proceed to the campground.
West (From Rocky Mount, NC)
Follow US-64 East through Tarboro, Williamston, Plymouth, Columbia, and Manteo, crossing the Alligator River Bridge and the Virginia Dare Bridge. Keep going on US-64 East to Nags Head, NC, going over the Washington Baum Bridge, to the junction of NC-12 South. Turn right onto NC-12 South and you will be at the north entrance to Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Continue on NC-12 South through the villages of Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, and Buxton. Once you reach Frisco take a left on Billy Mitchell Road and proceed to the campground.
South (From Florence, SC)
Take I-95 North to Wilson, NC. Take US-264 East through Greenville, NC and Washington, NC. From Washington, NC, take US-17 to Williamston and follow US-64 East to Nags Head, NC and the junction of NC-12 South. (For an alternate route to NC-12 South, continue on I-95 North to Rocky Mount, NC. Take US-64 East through Tarboro, Williamston, Plymouth, Columbia, and Manteo, crossing the Alligator River Bridge and the Virginia Dare Bridge. Keep going on US-64 East to Nags Head, NC, going over the Washington Baum Bridge, to the junction of NC-12 South). Turn right onto NC-12 South and you will be at the north entrance to Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Continue on NC-12 South through the villages of Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, and Buxton. Frisco Campground is accessible via NC-12 South, which connects to US-158 East approximately 12 miles to the north. US-64 East also provides access from the west, connecting to NC-12 South at Nags Head.

Policies & Rules
General
- A reservation to camp is required. Same day reservations can be made based on availability.
- Camping is limited to a total of 14 days of camping between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Making reservations under another name or account to circumvent the 14 day restriction is prohibited.
- Generators must be turned off during quiet hours.
- Wood fires are not permitted in the campground. Only charcoal cooking fires are permitted in a grill, stove, or other self-contained unit.
- A fire may be ignited and maintained only by using fuel sources designed and commonly used for warmth or the preparation of food, such as charcoal briquettes or natural firewood. Lighting or maintaining a fire with other materials including, but not limited to, flammable liquids, garbage, fireworks, plastics, aerosol canisters, batteries, or other manufactured or synthetic materials, is prohibited.
- All equipment must fit on the site pad, large RVs over 25 feet may have to park second vehicles in auxiliary parking away from the campground, or purchase an additional campsite. Parking on the grass is prohibited.
- There is a limit of 6 persons per site, a maximum of 2 cars, or 1 car and 1 trailer, and a maximum of two tents.
- Biting insects are prevalent in the summer months, therefore netting and repellent are recommended.
- Most campsites are exposed and subject to weather extremes. There are limited sites with shade in the campground.
- The Access Pass and both the Senior Annual and Senior Lifetime Pass are the only passes that provide a discount on the fee for the campsite physically occupied by the pass owner, not to any additional campsite(s) occupied by members of the pass owner's party. The discount does not apply to utility hookups. The pass discount must be applied at the time of the reservation; it cannot be applied retroactively.
