Great campground! We saw deer several times, it was so quiet and peaceful and the camp hosts were all great.
Most definitely will return (when the ticks and mosquitoes are gone!)

Wonderful campground. Quiet, lots of shady sites along the perimeter road for tents or canopies to set up back in the trees. Nice level sites, clean restrooms & bath houses. As stated on the .gov website, the showers are cold (not a big issue at the beach as ambient temps are warm) and the mosquitoes can be intense in the dawn and dusk times. Make sure you take bug spray and you will have a lovely time. We enjoyed our stay immensely and will stay again the next time we are in the OBX.

Our site (P028) was a tight squeeze. There was no place to put the tent other than on the pavement, which left very little room for our vehicle.
Also, we had booked this campsite in hopes of less development around the beach. It's true that there were no hotels or cottages nearby, but cars/trucks can park on the beach. By 10am, it's was wall-to-wall trucks as far as we could see.

The campsites are nicely placed in the bushes for privacy. I liked my campsite. But, it is a long long walk to the beach and a long walk to the restrooms and showers, if you want a site nearer to the beach.

This is a beautiful campground. We were surprised at the lack of wind. We were also asked not to use our generator, which we were also surprised by. Perhaps a generator loop would be a good solution for tent campers as well as RV campers.

The campground was beautiful. The showers and bathrooms were well maintained. There was easy access to a beautiful beach and a unique hiking trail. We took our mini poodle and, unfortunately there were a huge number of ticks. We took the 4.4 mile hiking trail to the lighthouse road and back. We stayed on the trail and I think she picked most of them up that day. However, we also encountered 3 ticks right at our campsite. She takes medicine for fleas and ticks so I am not sure if she was bitten but I removed over 20 dead ticks from her after treating her fur with a natural tick treatment.
