This was an excellent camp spot. Level ground with shade, brush between campsites for privacy. Little bit of a walk to the bathroom / shower and beach. Nice quiet campground and clean.

Assateaque is my favorite place on the planet!!! I sooooo want to be an ocean loop host next year. The people -- camp hosts, ranger station and pony staff -- were all so nice. A family of seven horses -- mom, baby, dad, and 4 of mom's children from a previous relationship came grazing in the campground. It was surreal to see horses casually grazing in the middle of various campsites. I made a few short videos and my Instagram, facebook and youtube friends just loved it. Your island brought joy far beyond your shores. I can't wait to come back!!!!!!

Campground with plenty of space between sites, some more secluded than others. Shrubs and low trees offer some shade and breaks from the wind. Beautiful beaches but bike riding very difficult if not impossible, even with large tires. Road biking okay with some shoulders either 5 miles south to ferry or 7 miles North to Buxton.

We like the Frisco campground area very much overall. However, there are two issues which are problem not only here but in many other parks. The first is dog barking ! Amazing how inconsiderate campers can be not controlling their dogs in a location where folks are looking for some peace and tranquility. The park needs to be more pro-active in clamping down on dog barking.
The second issue has to do withy the loop P road. Since virtually all vehicles must use this road to exit, there is alot of traffic at times. But the real problem is that a lot of people are driving too fast! The speed limit is 15mph and we had cars going by out site well over 30! Very annoying and dangerous ! It pains me to say this because I generally do not like the use of speed bumps, but I believe they should be placed at several points around the 'P' loop.

Nice campground. Decent walk to the beach through wetland and dunes. Bring bug spray. Enjoy cold invigorating showers. Campground is in good location.

North (From Richmond, VA)
Follow I-95 South to Richmond, VA. Take I-64 East toward Norfolk/Virginia Beach, VA. Take I-64 or I-664 to Chesapeake, VA. From I-64, take Exit 291B to Route 168, the Chesapeake Expressway (a toll-road costing $3.00 - $6.00 each way). Once in North Carolina, Route 168 turns into US-158 East. Follow US-158 East through Nags Head, NC to the junction of NC-12 South. Continue on NC-12 South through the villages of Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, and Buxton. Once you reach Frisco take a left on Billy Mitchell Road and proceed to the campground.
West (From Rocky Mount, NC)
Follow US-64 East through Tarboro, Williamston, Plymouth, Columbia, and Manteo, crossing the Alligator River Bridge and the Virginia Dare Bridge. Keep going on US-64 East to Nags Head, NC, going over the Washington Baum Bridge, to the junction of NC-12 South. Turn right onto NC-12 South and you will be at the north entrance to Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Continue on NC-12 South through the villages of Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, and Buxton. Once you reach Frisco take a left on Billy Mitchell Road and proceed to the campground.
South (From Florence, SC)
Take I-95 North to Wilson, NC. Take US-264 East through Greenville, NC and Washington, NC. From Washington, NC, take US-17 to Williamston and follow US-64 East to Nags Head, NC and the junction of NC-12 South. (For an alternate route to NC-12 South, continue on I-95 North to Rocky Mount, NC. Take US-64 East through Tarboro, Williamston, Plymouth, Columbia, and Manteo, crossing the Alligator River Bridge and the Virginia Dare Bridge. Keep going on US-64 East to Nags Head, NC, going over the Washington Baum Bridge, to the junction of NC-12 South). Turn right onto NC-12 South and you will be at the north entrance to Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Continue on NC-12 South through the villages of Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, and Buxton. Frisco Campground is accessible via NC-12 South, which connects to US-158 East approximately 12 miles to the north. US-64 East also provides access from the west, connecting to NC-12 South at Nags Head.

Policies & Rules
General
- A reservation to camp is required. Same day reservations can be made based on availability.
- Camping is limited to a total of 14 days of camping between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Making reservations under another name or account to circumvent the 14 day restriction is prohibited.
- Generators must be turned off during quiet hours.
- Wood fires are not permitted in the campground. Only charcoal cooking fires are permitted in a grill, stove, or other self-contained unit.
- A fire may be ignited and maintained only by using fuel sources designed and commonly used for warmth or the preparation of food, such as charcoal briquettes or natural firewood. Lighting or maintaining a fire with other materials including, but not limited to, flammable liquids, garbage, fireworks, plastics, aerosol canisters, batteries, or other manufactured or synthetic materials, is prohibited.
- All equipment must fit on the site pad, large RVs over 25 feet may have to park second vehicles in auxiliary parking away from the campground, or purchase an additional campsite. Parking on the grass is prohibited.
- There is a limit of 6 persons per site, a maximum of 2 cars, or 1 car and 1 trailer, and a maximum of two tents.
- Biting insects are prevalent in the summer months, therefore netting and repellent are recommended.
- Most campsites are exposed and subject to weather extremes. There are limited sites with shade in the campground.
- The Access Pass and both the Senior Annual and Senior Lifetime Pass are the only passes that provide a discount on the fee for the campsite physically occupied by the pass owner, not to any additional campsite(s) occupied by members of the pass owner's party. The discount does not apply to utility hookups. The pass discount must be applied at the time of the reservation; it cannot be applied retroactively.
