did not do my homework on campsite did not know it was a drive on beach unlike Oracoke Crowd was insane all beach spots were loaded with ORV

Bathrooms and showers were clean .
The beach could have been nicer but too many trucks.
Felt like Dayton Beach.
If that’s what you’re looking for go to Frisco.

The experience at this campground was good. The toilets were generally clean but watch out for the frogs in the shower. The campsite was VERY buggy; so many mosquitoes!! Nothing seem to work, not citronella not bug spray. The campsites were in a great location to the beach. Highlight of the trip was the free ferry ride to Ocracoke island and the awesome beaches there. Would definitely go back despite the mosquitoes.

Love the location of this campground -- among the shrubs and with walkovers to the beach, and right by the drive-on road to beach. Close to Buxton and other Hatteras villages. Nice shade in most sites. Each morning would start with a 5 min drive to Frisco break, then lighthouse, then Avon, looking for waves to surf. Stopped in the Rod and Gun for ice daily, and the Conner's supermarket, too. Pamlico Deli was a favorite, and the Froggy Dog in Avon. Also visited Natural Art surf store -- the owner knew the guy who had shaped my husband's board, oh, about 30 years ago!

The campsite in general was clean. There isn’t any hot water for the showers, no light in said showers and the mosquitos run rampant there. Which isn’t a big deal when you know ahead of time. The beaches nearby are quiet, and the lighthouses around are well maintained.

Absolutely beautiful and breathtaking...nice camp spots
..great showers....great home base while on the island!!!
Be prepared for major mosquitoes and no see um bugs!!
I know a lot had to do with the time of year...but we would do it all over again!

My normal campsite was not available which I have had for over 30years so I had to blindly pick and was on a big slant...had to call someone in my family in ohio to go on line and switch sites since all on line now...back in day you could go to office to see what was available...no more..a bit annoying.

Absolutely loved Frisco Campground. Quiet, clean, great views. Didn't mind the cold showers, was actually refreshing after a long hot day. The reservation process was beyond easy! Very close to Hatteras terminal. Definitely take a trip to Ocracoke and look into a ferry to Portsmouth Island!

Very high population of mosquitoes concentrated just at this site. Bring a thermacell otherwise you’ll leave with a few flying friends.

North (From Richmond, VA)
Follow I-95 South to Richmond, VA. Take I-64 East toward Norfolk/Virginia Beach, VA. Take I-64 or I-664 to Chesapeake, VA. From I-64, take Exit 291B to Route 168, the Chesapeake Expressway (a toll-road costing $3.00 - $6.00 each way). Once in North Carolina, Route 168 turns into US-158 East. Follow US-158 East through Nags Head, NC to the junction of NC-12 South. Continue on NC-12 South through the villages of Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, and Buxton. Once you reach Frisco take a left on Billy Mitchell Road and proceed to the campground.
West (From Rocky Mount, NC)
Follow US-64 East through Tarboro, Williamston, Plymouth, Columbia, and Manteo, crossing the Alligator River Bridge and the Virginia Dare Bridge. Keep going on US-64 East to Nags Head, NC, going over the Washington Baum Bridge, to the junction of NC-12 South. Turn right onto NC-12 South and you will be at the north entrance to Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Continue on NC-12 South through the villages of Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, and Buxton. Once you reach Frisco take a left on Billy Mitchell Road and proceed to the campground.
South (From Florence, SC)
Take I-95 North to Wilson, NC. Take US-264 East through Greenville, NC and Washington, NC. From Washington, NC, take US-17 to Williamston and follow US-64 East to Nags Head, NC and the junction of NC-12 South. (For an alternate route to NC-12 South, continue on I-95 North to Rocky Mount, NC. Take US-64 East through Tarboro, Williamston, Plymouth, Columbia, and Manteo, crossing the Alligator River Bridge and the Virginia Dare Bridge. Keep going on US-64 East to Nags Head, NC, going over the Washington Baum Bridge, to the junction of NC-12 South). Turn right onto NC-12 South and you will be at the north entrance to Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Continue on NC-12 South through the villages of Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, and Buxton. Frisco Campground is accessible via NC-12 South, which connects to US-158 East approximately 12 miles to the north. US-64 East also provides access from the west, connecting to NC-12 South at Nags Head.

Policies & Rules
General
- A reservation to camp is required. Same day reservations can be made based on availability.
- Camping is limited to a total of 14 days of camping between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Making reservations under another name or account to circumvent the 14 day restriction is prohibited.
- Generators must be turned off during quiet hours.
- Wood fires are not permitted in the campground. Only charcoal cooking fires are permitted in a grill, stove, or other self-contained unit.
- A fire may be ignited and maintained only by using fuel sources designed and commonly used for warmth or the preparation of food, such as charcoal briquettes or natural firewood. Lighting or maintaining a fire with other materials including, but not limited to, flammable liquids, garbage, fireworks, plastics, aerosol canisters, batteries, or other manufactured or synthetic materials, is prohibited.
- All equipment must fit on the site pad, large RVs over 25 feet may have to park second vehicles in auxiliary parking away from the campground, or purchase an additional campsite. Parking on the grass is prohibited.
- There is a limit of 6 persons per site, a maximum of 2 cars, or 1 car and 1 trailer, and a maximum of two tents.
- Biting insects are prevalent in the summer months, therefore netting and repellent are recommended.
- Most campsites are exposed and subject to weather extremes. There are limited sites with shade in the campground.
- The Access Pass and both the Senior Annual and Senior Lifetime Pass are the only passes that provide a discount on the fee for the campsite physically occupied by the pass owner, not to any additional campsite(s) occupied by members of the pass owner's party. The discount does not apply to utility hookups. The pass discount must be applied at the time of the reservation; it cannot be applied retroactively.
