This is a nice spot to camp but beware the ticks! We expected mosquitoes and even some poison ivy, but the ticks were everywhere. No place was safe, not even the concrete. We were doing tick check every 4-6 hours and still managed to find super tiny ones attached. I would recommend treating your clothes, camp chairs and tent with permethrin prior to arrival.
Otherwise the sites are relatively nice, most of them lack shade so be sure to bring a tarp or some sort of system that enables you to create shade in the middle of the day. The restrooms were clean and the sites are relatively spread out. Cell phone reception is pretty spotty so don't expect much. The walk to the ocean is also quite lovely and depending on where your site is, you can either walk directly from your site or there are parking areas near each of the boardwalks that head to the beach.

Very beautiful park, if you love the beach and water sports, you love this place. We wanted to hike ( we love walking) since it was too hot for us (we are from the north), we walk on the beautiful Frisco beach where it was cooler.

It is wonderful to be able to camp in an area not over developed. The campsites are well spaced and very comfortable.

Love the location of the campground. Please keep camps such as this one, simple and affordable..not everyone needs water and hook ups on site.
The only thing was that the access to the beach with a steep dune at the end of the boardwalk with very soft and deep sand on one side was a little hard for a senior, more efforts had been made for the SUVs access.
Apart from that, I am bery grateful that we have such campgrounds as Frisco and will definitely return.

Nice campground but sites are very small. Not easy to get a big tent in many of them.

This is a great quiet place. The Rangers and staff have trimmed up some of the sites to make them more accessible. Most of the sites are small so not extremely big rig friendly. Be prepared for some windy days.
There is a great Indian heritage museum right across from the end of the entrance. Ace hardware, food lion and a dollar store within 20 minutes along with gas and market near the entrance and not to far a drive to the ferry to Ocracoke. Be sure to stop in at the old Hatteras weather station/tourist info center.
Potable water at the bath house , cold water only showers. No dump stations but you can dump at the Hatteras light campground.

Stayed 5/17-5/20 with my dog. Love this campground. Staff were friendly, the beach was not too crowded, bathroom and shower facilities were well kept. Grill was clean. The only issues were really related to my dog: the grass burrs and cactus were a huge problem with her feet. There were ticks ALL OVER HER and I was pulling them off of her all weekend. Be aware! Mosquitoes get very bad but weren’t when we were there because it was windy/rainy.
Review of Site P025:
Pros: Close to the boardwalk beach path; close but not too close (I consider a good thing) to bathroom/shower area; sizable, soft, and sandy tent site and some shade over path getting to it.
Cons: Traffic as a result of being right on the main road; grass burrs/stickers EVERYWHERE in grass around the asphalt and grill (My dog had a very rough time with that); no shade over seating area or tent area.
Overall I recommend this site I would just consider leaving your dog at home and bringing a shade tent for the picnic table area.

North (From Richmond, VA)
Follow I-95 South to Richmond, VA. Take I-64 East toward Norfolk/Virginia Beach, VA. Take I-64 or I-664 to Chesapeake, VA. From I-64, take Exit 291B to Route 168, the Chesapeake Expressway (a toll-road costing $3.00 - $6.00 each way). Once in North Carolina, Route 168 turns into US-158 East. Follow US-158 East through Nags Head, NC to the junction of NC-12 South. Continue on NC-12 South through the villages of Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, and Buxton. Once you reach Frisco take a left on Billy Mitchell Road and proceed to the campground.
West (From Rocky Mount, NC)
Follow US-64 East through Tarboro, Williamston, Plymouth, Columbia, and Manteo, crossing the Alligator River Bridge and the Virginia Dare Bridge. Keep going on US-64 East to Nags Head, NC, going over the Washington Baum Bridge, to the junction of NC-12 South. Turn right onto NC-12 South and you will be at the north entrance to Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Continue on NC-12 South through the villages of Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, and Buxton. Once you reach Frisco take a left on Billy Mitchell Road and proceed to the campground.
South (From Florence, SC)
Take I-95 North to Wilson, NC. Take US-264 East through Greenville, NC and Washington, NC. From Washington, NC, take US-17 to Williamston and follow US-64 East to Nags Head, NC and the junction of NC-12 South. (For an alternate route to NC-12 South, continue on I-95 North to Rocky Mount, NC. Take US-64 East through Tarboro, Williamston, Plymouth, Columbia, and Manteo, crossing the Alligator River Bridge and the Virginia Dare Bridge. Keep going on US-64 East to Nags Head, NC, going over the Washington Baum Bridge, to the junction of NC-12 South). Turn right onto NC-12 South and you will be at the north entrance to Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Continue on NC-12 South through the villages of Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, and Buxton. Frisco Campground is accessible via NC-12 South, which connects to US-158 East approximately 12 miles to the north. US-64 East also provides access from the west, connecting to NC-12 South at Nags Head.

Policies & Rules
General
- A reservation to camp is required. Same day reservations can be made based on availability.
- Camping is limited to a total of 14 days of camping between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Making reservations under another name or account to circumvent the 14 day restriction is prohibited.
- Generators must be turned off during quiet hours.
- Wood fires are not permitted in the campground. Only charcoal cooking fires are permitted in a grill, stove, or other self-contained unit.
- A fire may be ignited and maintained only by using fuel sources designed and commonly used for warmth or the preparation of food, such as charcoal briquettes or natural firewood. Lighting or maintaining a fire with other materials including, but not limited to, flammable liquids, garbage, fireworks, plastics, aerosol canisters, batteries, or other manufactured or synthetic materials, is prohibited.
- All equipment must fit on the site pad, large RVs over 25 feet may have to park second vehicles in auxiliary parking away from the campground, or purchase an additional campsite. Parking on the grass is prohibited.
- There is a limit of 6 persons per site, a maximum of 2 cars, or 1 car and 1 trailer, and a maximum of two tents.
- Biting insects are prevalent in the summer months, therefore netting and repellent are recommended.
- Most campsites are exposed and subject to weather extremes. There are limited sites with shade in the campground.
- The Access Pass and both the Senior Annual and Senior Lifetime Pass are the only passes that provide a discount on the fee for the campsite physically occupied by the pass owner, not to any additional campsite(s) occupied by members of the pass owner's party. The discount does not apply to utility hookups. The pass discount must be applied at the time of the reservation; it cannot be applied retroactively.
