Our site (P028) was a tight squeeze. There was no place to put the tent other than on the pavement, which left very little room for our vehicle.
Also, we had booked this campsite in hopes of less development around the beach. It's true that there were no hotels or cottages nearby, but cars/trucks can park on the beach. By 10am, it's was wall-to-wall trucks as far as we could see.

Wonderful campground. Quiet, lots of shady sites along the perimeter road for tents or canopies to set up back in the trees. Nice level sites, clean restrooms & bath houses. As stated on the .gov website, the showers are cold (not a big issue at the beach as ambient temps are warm) and the mosquitoes can be intense in the dawn and dusk times. Make sure you take bug spray and you will have a lovely time. We enjoyed our stay immensely and will stay again the next time we are in the OBX.

Frisco is a very nice boondocking campground. The bathhouse & showers are always clean & well maintained.

Great campground! We saw deer several times, it was so quiet and peaceful and the camp hosts were all great.
Most definitely will return (when the ticks and mosquitoes are gone!)

Site: Shhhh don’t tell - this is the best site at the campground. All shaded - completely enclosed by trees so you feel very isolated. 5 min walk to boardwalk path, additional 10 mins and you’re on the beach. Close to the showers and bathrooms.
Campground: clean bathrooms, love the refreshing cold showers. Only bummer (reason star docked) is the cool water dispensers were broken on the A and B loops.

Frisco Campground Pros: It is a quieter campground than Oregon Inlet, and some spaces are quite nice and have privacy. Mile Marker 49 is within the camp, and the beaches are easily accessible and not too crowded. The campground is near the Ocracoke Ferry.
Frisco Campground cons: My spot, P20, was not that great and could use some maintenance. Paths to the beach are further than Oregon Inlet, but they are nice. Overall, it's not too bad for $28/night.

P27 is a nice camp spot. You do get morning and evning sun but over all it was realatively flat and could easily fit two tents. It was close to the bath houses and restrooms. Both bath houses and restrooms were clean and well maintained. Be advised the showers are not heated but for us the air temperature was 85* so the none heated showers were not that bad, We had NO cell phone coverage at all on our site. We either had to walk to the top of the campground or the beach for coverage.

North (From Richmond, VA)
Follow I-95 South to Richmond, VA. Take I-64 East toward Norfolk/Virginia Beach, VA. Take I-64 or I-664 to Chesapeake, VA. From I-64, take Exit 291B to Route 168, the Chesapeake Expressway (a toll-road costing $3.00 - $6.00 each way). Once in North Carolina, Route 168 turns into US-158 East. Follow US-158 East through Nags Head, NC to the junction of NC-12 South. Continue on NC-12 South through the villages of Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, and Buxton. Once you reach Frisco take a left on Billy Mitchell Road and proceed to the campground.
West (From Rocky Mount, NC)
Follow US-64 East through Tarboro, Williamston, Plymouth, Columbia, and Manteo, crossing the Alligator River Bridge and the Virginia Dare Bridge. Keep going on US-64 East to Nags Head, NC, going over the Washington Baum Bridge, to the junction of NC-12 South. Turn right onto NC-12 South and you will be at the north entrance to Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Continue on NC-12 South through the villages of Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, and Buxton. Once you reach Frisco take a left on Billy Mitchell Road and proceed to the campground.
South (From Florence, SC)
Take I-95 North to Wilson, NC. Take US-264 East through Greenville, NC and Washington, NC. From Washington, NC, take US-17 to Williamston and follow US-64 East to Nags Head, NC and the junction of NC-12 South. (For an alternate route to NC-12 South, continue on I-95 North to Rocky Mount, NC. Take US-64 East through Tarboro, Williamston, Plymouth, Columbia, and Manteo, crossing the Alligator River Bridge and the Virginia Dare Bridge. Keep going on US-64 East to Nags Head, NC, going over the Washington Baum Bridge, to the junction of NC-12 South). Turn right onto NC-12 South and you will be at the north entrance to Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Continue on NC-12 South through the villages of Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, and Buxton. Frisco Campground is accessible via NC-12 South, which connects to US-158 East approximately 12 miles to the north. US-64 East also provides access from the west, connecting to NC-12 South at Nags Head.

Policies & Rules
General
- A reservation to camp is required. Same day reservations can be made based on availability.
- Camping is limited to a total of 14 days of camping between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Making reservations under another name or account to circumvent the 14 day restriction is prohibited.
- Generators must be turned off during quiet hours.
- Wood fires are not permitted in the campground. Only charcoal cooking fires are permitted in a grill, stove, or other self-contained unit.
- A fire may be ignited and maintained only by using fuel sources designed and commonly used for warmth or the preparation of food, such as charcoal briquettes or natural firewood. Lighting or maintaining a fire with other materials including, but not limited to, flammable liquids, garbage, fireworks, plastics, aerosol canisters, batteries, or other manufactured or synthetic materials, is prohibited.
- All equipment must fit on the site pad, large RVs over 25 feet may have to park second vehicles in auxiliary parking away from the campground, or purchase an additional campsite. Parking on the grass is prohibited.
- There is a limit of 6 persons per site, a maximum of 2 cars, or 1 car and 1 trailer, and a maximum of two tents.
- Biting insects are prevalent in the summer months, therefore netting and repellent are recommended.
- Most campsites are exposed and subject to weather extremes. There are limited sites with shade in the campground.
- The Access Pass and both the Senior Annual and Senior Lifetime Pass are the only passes that provide a discount on the fee for the campsite physically occupied by the pass owner, not to any additional campsite(s) occupied by members of the pass owner's party. The discount does not apply to utility hookups. The pass discount must be applied at the time of the reservation; it cannot be applied retroactively.
