No shade trees - so exposed and so hot in June. The only sites I saw with trees were for RVs. On the plus side, it was blissfully quiet at night and we fell asleep listening to the waves and the cicadas. I’d definitely come back in the spring or the fall.

We have been coming to this campground for about 30 years, in tents and RVs and ways looked forward to our next visit. We stayed in a trailer and used the available facilities, a cold showers and restrooms, as needed. Due to advanced age, this was our last camping trip here. We have never had a bad camping trip here. We have always enjoyed being able to drive on the beach, with a beach entrance right at the entrance to Frisco Campground. There are also two boardwalks over to the beach. The scenery we enjoyed even after seeing it so many times. The campground may not have sewer, water or electric at the camp sites, but the space between the camping sites, the scenery, and the location, make for a very enjoyable visit.

The Pro's: 1) FEW MOSQUITOES! 👏👏👏Usually the Campground is swamped with them. 2) Great Weather 3) Half-full, no waits in RR/Showers 4) Folks in other sites were generally very friendly
Con's: 1) NPS Personnel were scarce; it's becoming "self-serve". I miss having a Host to connect with. Also less safe with Authority. 2) Super long walk to beach from site through dunes (about 300-400 yards) made carrying beach gear onerous.

Great campground with close proximity to beach and ORV ramp. Short bike ride to passenger ferry terminal to Ocracoke. Very clean facilities

A beautiful campground with easy access to the beach. Due to the topography, few of the sites are level once you are off the paved pad. This is difficult for tent campers and the campground appears to be populated more by RVs or van campers. The cold water is not freezing cold, however, the lack of lights in the showers is a big issue for those who want to shower off after dark after a full day of beach activities. My site was really infested with ticks and good bug spray is a must, no matter what time of day. Also, the rain washed the sand at my site towards the paved pad, leaving my tent surrounded by trash (bottle caps, cigarette butts, etc.) that had been hidden by the sand. I would stay at Frisco again, but I would be more likely to come in a camper as I didn't feel the place was especially friendly to tent campers.

This would be a five star location if you are staying outside of peak summer months. The sleeping pad location is nestled in a beautiful tree canopy providing much needed shade and privacy from your neighbors. Given that we were staying on a 85+ degree night, we found the camping area too protected and we weren’t able to receive any of the ocean breeze making the area static at night. We slept on the parking pad to ensure we had enough airflow to sleep. There is a beautiful view from the picnic table and it’s not too far from multiple well maintained bathrooms.

My wife and i are from Montreal and Frisco and the OBX are now our second favorite place in the world, Greece being number one !

North (From Richmond, VA)
Follow I-95 South to Richmond, VA. Take I-64 East toward Norfolk/Virginia Beach, VA. Take I-64 or I-664 to Chesapeake, VA. From I-64, take Exit 291B to Route 168, the Chesapeake Expressway (a toll-road costing $3.00 - $6.00 each way). Once in North Carolina, Route 168 turns into US-158 East. Follow US-158 East through Nags Head, NC to the junction of NC-12 South. Continue on NC-12 South through the villages of Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, and Buxton. Once you reach Frisco take a left on Billy Mitchell Road and proceed to the campground.
West (From Rocky Mount, NC)
Follow US-64 East through Tarboro, Williamston, Plymouth, Columbia, and Manteo, crossing the Alligator River Bridge and the Virginia Dare Bridge. Keep going on US-64 East to Nags Head, NC, going over the Washington Baum Bridge, to the junction of NC-12 South. Turn right onto NC-12 South and you will be at the north entrance to Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Continue on NC-12 South through the villages of Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, and Buxton. Once you reach Frisco take a left on Billy Mitchell Road and proceed to the campground.
South (From Florence, SC)
Take I-95 North to Wilson, NC. Take US-264 East through Greenville, NC and Washington, NC. From Washington, NC, take US-17 to Williamston and follow US-64 East to Nags Head, NC and the junction of NC-12 South. (For an alternate route to NC-12 South, continue on I-95 North to Rocky Mount, NC. Take US-64 East through Tarboro, Williamston, Plymouth, Columbia, and Manteo, crossing the Alligator River Bridge and the Virginia Dare Bridge. Keep going on US-64 East to Nags Head, NC, going over the Washington Baum Bridge, to the junction of NC-12 South). Turn right onto NC-12 South and you will be at the north entrance to Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Continue on NC-12 South through the villages of Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, and Buxton. Frisco Campground is accessible via NC-12 South, which connects to US-158 East approximately 12 miles to the north. US-64 East also provides access from the west, connecting to NC-12 South at Nags Head.

Policies & Rules
General
- A reservation to camp is required. Same day reservations can be made based on availability.
- Camping is limited to a total of 14 days of camping between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Making reservations under another name or account to circumvent the 14 day restriction is prohibited.
- Generators must be turned off during quiet hours.
- Wood fires are not permitted in the campground. Only charcoal cooking fires are permitted in a grill, stove, or other self-contained unit.
- A fire may be ignited and maintained only by using fuel sources designed and commonly used for warmth or the preparation of food, such as charcoal briquettes or natural firewood. Lighting or maintaining a fire with other materials including, but not limited to, flammable liquids, garbage, fireworks, plastics, aerosol canisters, batteries, or other manufactured or synthetic materials, is prohibited.
- All equipment must fit on the site pad, large RVs over 25 feet may have to park second vehicles in auxiliary parking away from the campground, or purchase an additional campsite. Parking on the grass is prohibited.
- There is a limit of 6 persons per site, a maximum of 2 cars, or 1 car and 1 trailer, and a maximum of two tents.
- Biting insects are prevalent in the summer months, therefore netting and repellent are recommended.
- Most campsites are exposed and subject to weather extremes. There are limited sites with shade in the campground.
- The Access Pass and both the Senior Annual and Senior Lifetime Pass are the only passes that provide a discount on the fee for the campsite physically occupied by the pass owner, not to any additional campsite(s) occupied by members of the pass owner's party. The discount does not apply to utility hookups. The pass discount must be applied at the time of the reservation; it cannot be applied retroactively.
