The water and access to the beaches are perfect at this campground. The water in August is unbelievable and there are so many beautiful seashells to be found!

The campground is well maintained and the bathrooms and showers were clean. Bugs were ok during the day but got bad after dusk. A bug shelter is definitely a good idea but I managed without one. The walk to the beach was about 400 yards. There was a nice boardwalk for most of the walk and a short climb over the dune to the water. The beach is unguarded but used by many beach drivers. I highly recommend participating in many of the events offered by the NPS during the week. Search for the events calendar on the Cape Hatteras website and check out what is offered. I signed up for the kayak and surf fishing with a ranger event. Some events require reservations that need to be made the Saturday before you arrive so plan your events befor traveling. There are shops and restaurants nearby the campground. I also recommend the Graveyard of the Atlantic museum. I did get a nail in one tire and couldn’t find any repair shop nearby but was able to get the tire fixed at Dave’s auto in Salvo. Enjoy!

What a perfect four days! I camped here with my son. We surf fished, took the ferry to Okracoke, went kayak fishing in the sound, played on the beach and cooked a lot at the campsite. For late August, we lucked out in terms of weather. It was cool a few evenings, and the days weren’t too hot. The trees on this campsite made it unique from other beach camps we have done. The wind was disrupted. I thought that the bugs might be bad, and was prepared with bug nets and permethrin but we were never really swarmed. The shower did not have hot water, but it was tolerable for this time of year. The campground was well maintained and clean. Great stay!

Cozy campsites with some shade in some, so select carefully. Easy walk to the beach with warm beautiful water and nice sandy beach.

We love this campground! It is a long walk to the beach though. So we went down to the beach near the old lighthouse site at Hatteras, just a short walk from the parking lot!

Really enjoyed the trees and vegiatation coverage so our campsite was not totally out in the sun. It was quiet and so close to the beach.

North (From Richmond, VA)
Follow I-95 South to Richmond, VA. Take I-64 East toward Norfolk/Virginia Beach, VA. Take I-64 or I-664 to Chesapeake, VA. From I-64, take Exit 291B to Route 168, the Chesapeake Expressway (a toll-road costing $3.00 - $6.00 each way). Once in North Carolina, Route 168 turns into US-158 East. Follow US-158 East through Nags Head, NC to the junction of NC-12 South. Continue on NC-12 South through the villages of Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, and Buxton. Once you reach Frisco take a left on Billy Mitchell Road and proceed to the campground.
West (From Rocky Mount, NC)
Follow US-64 East through Tarboro, Williamston, Plymouth, Columbia, and Manteo, crossing the Alligator River Bridge and the Virginia Dare Bridge. Keep going on US-64 East to Nags Head, NC, going over the Washington Baum Bridge, to the junction of NC-12 South. Turn right onto NC-12 South and you will be at the north entrance to Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Continue on NC-12 South through the villages of Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, and Buxton. Once you reach Frisco take a left on Billy Mitchell Road and proceed to the campground.
South (From Florence, SC)
Take I-95 North to Wilson, NC. Take US-264 East through Greenville, NC and Washington, NC. From Washington, NC, take US-17 to Williamston and follow US-64 East to Nags Head, NC and the junction of NC-12 South. (For an alternate route to NC-12 South, continue on I-95 North to Rocky Mount, NC. Take US-64 East through Tarboro, Williamston, Plymouth, Columbia, and Manteo, crossing the Alligator River Bridge and the Virginia Dare Bridge. Keep going on US-64 East to Nags Head, NC, going over the Washington Baum Bridge, to the junction of NC-12 South). Turn right onto NC-12 South and you will be at the north entrance to Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Continue on NC-12 South through the villages of Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, and Buxton. Once you reach Frisco take a left on Billy Mitchell Road and proceed to the campground.
Frisco Campground is accessible via NC-12 South, which connects to US-158 East approximately 12 miles to the north. US-64 East also provides access from the west, connecting to NC-12 South at Nags Head.

Policies & Rules
General
- A reservation to camp is required. Same day reservations can be made based on availability.
- Camping is limited to a total of 14 days of camping between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Making reservations under another name or account to circumvent the 14 day restriction is prohibited.
- Generators must be turned off during quiet hours.
- Wood fires are not permitted in the campground. Only charcoal cooking fires are permitted in a grill, stove, or other self-contained unit.
- A fire may be ignited and maintained only by using fuel sources designed and commonly used for warmth or the preparation of food, such as charcoal briquettes or natural firewood. Lighting or maintaining a fire with other materials including, but not limited to, flammable liquids, garbage, fireworks, plastics, aerosol canisters, batteries, or other manufactured or synthetic materials, is prohibited.
- All equipment must fit on the site pad, large RVs over 25 feet may have to park second vehicles in auxiliary parking away from the campground, or purchase an additional campsite. Parking on the grass is prohibited.
- There is a limit of 6 persons per site, a maximum of 2 cars, or 1 car and 1 trailer, and a maximum of two tents.
- Biting insects are prevalent in the summer months, therefore netting and repellent are recommended.
- Most campsites are exposed and subject to weather extremes. There are limited sites with shade in the campground.
- The Access Pass and both the Senior Annual and Senior Lifetime Pass are the only passes that provide a discount on the fee for the campsite physically occupied by the pass owner, not to any additional campsite(s) occupied by members of the pass owner's party. The discount does not apply to utility hookups. The pass discount must be applied at the time of the reservation; it cannot be applied retroactively.
