The park is beautiful. We loved the hiking trail. It is a good place to see snakes, which we enjoy. Joe, one of the rangers at the park, is very kind, warm, welcoming, and helpful.
We didn't enjoy the trucks on the beach. We wish there were more places along that lovely island to get away from motor vehicles. That's one of the many reasons we camp: to enjoy nature, quiet, wildlife, and get away from the busy world. We need more pristine places that support nature.

Terrific campground, especially for catching the ferry to Okracoke Island the next day. We love the perimeter sites where you can camp in the woods and out of the wind.

Stayed here for two nights in mid April, in an 18' trailer. Our site was small, and had a slope, but was clean, surrounded by vegetation, and relatively private. The five minute walk to the ocean is great. The cold showers aren't so great, especially since there's no place to hang clothes or put soap/shampoo, but I guess that's part of the experience (and with no dump station on-site, we didn't want to fill our small gray tank).
Overall, would return.

Late April. Close to bathroom and shower. Came here last minute because Cape Point campground was infested with bugs that we couldn't enter our tent that we had set up in the day time. The cell reception (Verizon) was so bad that I couldn't even book my reservation at the campground. I had to leave the campground back to the main road to book my reservation. Slept in RTT so a good spot but for tent camping I'm not even sure where you would set up. There wasn't much room at all. The bugs were less here. No biting flies but lots and lots of moths at night.

This is a wonderful campground. There is elevation change that open up great dune and a few ocean views, there is good privacy at many sites. One of our favorite NP Campgrounds.

It’s a beautiful place, but there we just sooooo many ticks. Each time we came back to the campsite we were constantly picking them off of us and were each bit a couple times. We went May 3-4 and cut our stay early after one night, site B1.

North (From Richmond, VA)
Follow I-95 South to Richmond, VA. Take I-64 East toward Norfolk/Virginia Beach, VA. Take I-64 or I-664 to Chesapeake, VA. From I-64, take Exit 291B to Route 168, the Chesapeake Expressway (a toll-road costing $3.00 - $6.00 each way). Once in North Carolina, Route 168 turns into US-158 East. Follow US-158 East through Nags Head, NC to the junction of NC-12 South. Continue on NC-12 South through the villages of Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, and Buxton. Once you reach Frisco take a left on Billy Mitchell Road and proceed to the campground.
West (From Rocky Mount, NC)
Follow US-64 East through Tarboro, Williamston, Plymouth, Columbia, and Manteo, crossing the Alligator River Bridge and the Virginia Dare Bridge. Keep going on US-64 East to Nags Head, NC, going over the Washington Baum Bridge, to the junction of NC-12 South. Turn right onto NC-12 South and you will be at the north entrance to Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Continue on NC-12 South through the villages of Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, and Buxton. Once you reach Frisco take a left on Billy Mitchell Road and proceed to the campground.
South (From Florence, SC)
Take I-95 North to Wilson, NC. Take US-264 East through Greenville, NC and Washington, NC. From Washington, NC, take US-17 to Williamston and follow US-64 East to Nags Head, NC and the junction of NC-12 South. (For an alternate route to NC-12 South, continue on I-95 North to Rocky Mount, NC. Take US-64 East through Tarboro, Williamston, Plymouth, Columbia, and Manteo, crossing the Alligator River Bridge and the Virginia Dare Bridge. Keep going on US-64 East to Nags Head, NC, going over the Washington Baum Bridge, to the junction of NC-12 South). Turn right onto NC-12 South and you will be at the north entrance to Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Continue on NC-12 South through the villages of Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, and Buxton. Frisco Campground is accessible via NC-12 South, which connects to US-158 East approximately 12 miles to the north. US-64 East also provides access from the west, connecting to NC-12 South at Nags Head.

Policies & Rules
General
- A reservation to camp is required. Same day reservations can be made based on availability.
- Camping is limited to a total of 14 days of camping between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Making reservations under another name or account to circumvent the 14 day restriction is prohibited.
- Generators must be turned off during quiet hours.
- Wood fires are not permitted in the campground. Only charcoal cooking fires are permitted in a grill, stove, or other self-contained unit.
- A fire may be ignited and maintained only by using fuel sources designed and commonly used for warmth or the preparation of food, such as charcoal briquettes or natural firewood. Lighting or maintaining a fire with other materials including, but not limited to, flammable liquids, garbage, fireworks, plastics, aerosol canisters, batteries, or other manufactured or synthetic materials, is prohibited.
- All equipment must fit on the site pad, large RVs over 25 feet may have to park second vehicles in auxiliary parking away from the campground, or purchase an additional campsite. Parking on the grass is prohibited.
- There is a limit of 6 persons per site, a maximum of 2 cars, or 1 car and 1 trailer, and a maximum of two tents.
- Biting insects are prevalent in the summer months, therefore netting and repellent are recommended.
- Most campsites are exposed and subject to weather extremes. There are limited sites with shade in the campground.
- The Access Pass and both the Senior Annual and Senior Lifetime Pass are the only passes that provide a discount on the fee for the campsite physically occupied by the pass owner, not to any additional campsite(s) occupied by members of the pass owner's party. The discount does not apply to utility hookups. The pass discount must be applied at the time of the reservation; it cannot be applied retroactively.
