We always love going to Frisco, and that is why we return every year. This year was no exception. The staff is ALWAYS friendly and ALWAYS smiling. It is such a pleasure communicating with them if the need arises. The grounds are always clean, and the areas are well taken care of. Thank you for all the effort to help us enjoy our time there

I continued to book at Frisco due to the more private nature of the campsites than those at other National Parks owned campgrounds on the Cape Hatteras National Seashore, and was offered excellent customer service by Ranger Michael whip helped find unique and interesting sites that offered natural amenities that I was looking to explore (I grew up in WNC and had never seen a wax myrtle, a loblolly pine, or a live oak…those are all indigenous to ENC, and he guided me to sites that featured not only marvelous views, but also differing experiences of the local ecosystem, which I, as a native Mountain Region North Carolinian, am unfamiliar with).
Unfortunately, I only had the opportunity to meet one other Ranger while staying in Frisco Campground (another WNC native whose first National Parks experience was at the SAME PARK AS MINE and she stated led to her pursuit of work with the Parks Service), Ranger Savannah. I verbalized my concerns and sadness about the unkempt, visibly uncared for state of this North Carolinian National Seashore…where there are poorly maintained bath houses with water leaks, sinks that would not turn off once pushed to initiate flow for handwashing, drinking water that SMELLS METALLIC, holes in plexiglass of shower house roofs that have been left for long enough to allow damage to interior beam structures, and a harshly demeanored camp host (with a hurtful and political statement flag posted to her site marker).
Ranger Savannah hit the nail on the head when she said “it really does make a difference when people care about the park they work in.” She verbalized leaving our home state at the seasons end for better opportunities, and I wish her luck…but later I would witness her texting while driving a National Parks vehicle, with the tires literally driving off of the road…
I agree with Ranger Savannah. Our Park in WNC IS cared for by its staff. I am dissatisfied with what I have found passes for care in ENC

North (From Richmond, VA)
Follow I-95 South to Richmond, VA. Take I-64 East toward Norfolk/Virginia Beach, VA. Take I-64 or I-664 to Chesapeake, VA. From I-64, take Exit 291B to Route 168, the Chesapeake Expressway (a toll-road costing $3.00 - $6.00 each way). Once in North Carolina, Route 168 turns into US-158 East. Follow US-158 East through Nags Head, NC to the junction of NC-12 South. Continue on NC-12 South through the villages of Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, and Buxton. Once you reach Frisco take a left on Billy Mitchell Road and proceed to the campground.
West (From Rocky Mount, NC)
Follow US-64 East through Tarboro, Williamston, Plymouth, Columbia, and Manteo, crossing the Alligator River Bridge and the Virginia Dare Bridge. Keep going on US-64 East to Nags Head, NC, going over the Washington Baum Bridge, to the junction of NC-12 South. Turn right onto NC-12 South and you will be at the north entrance to Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Continue on NC-12 South through the villages of Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, and Buxton. Once you reach Frisco take a left on Billy Mitchell Road and proceed to the campground.
South (From Florence, SC)
Take I-95 North to Wilson, NC. Take US-264 East through Greenville, NC and Washington, NC. From Washington, NC, take US-17 to Williamston and follow US-64 East to Nags Head, NC and the junction of NC-12 South. (For an alternate route to NC-12 South, continue on I-95 North to Rocky Mount, NC. Take US-64 East through Tarboro, Williamston, Plymouth, Columbia, and Manteo, crossing the Alligator River Bridge and the Virginia Dare Bridge.
