Beautiful campground - set in the dunes on the outer banks. The surrounding area is quaint and supplies are plentiful. The bathroom clean and the sites small but cozy. There was a lot of shade for an ocean side camground and a lot of privacy. Would stay there again!

Perfect weather during my visit - shorts and a t-shirt were perfect for the duration. The stars at night are awe inspiring. I could hear the surf.
While the sound side of the island was windy drawing the kite boarders and windsurfers, the campground was not windy.
Clean bathrooms and no litter make for a nice campground.

Camped here with my family in spot A5. We chose it for the convenience,right near the entrance and directly across from the bathrooms and showers. Perfect for car camping, but not much room for a tent, so I’d pick a different spot if you’re tent camping.
The campground itself was super clean, and the bathrooms were way nicer than expected. Showers are cold though, so bringing a solar shower is a smart move.
The beach is very close, you can hear the waves at night and the stars are incredible thanks to low light pollution. Definitely plan for some downtime to just relax, enjoy the beach, catch the sunset, and take in the night sky. Saw some people windsurfing too, which was pretty cool.
Only downside: ticks… a lot of them. Lone star ticks everywhere. Stay out of the brush and bring strong bug spray.
Overall, great spot if you come prepared.

Frisco campground is great as long as you are ready for primitive camping. Very quiet and secluded. I will do again Lord willing!

Great stay, location nice and quiet with sounds of waves! Area was clean easy to locate and plenty of space for camp and vehicle! Showers and bathrooms well lite and during our stay, could become over crowded if full but plenty of options. All facilities stocked and trash can was clean and not over filled or smelly!

Frisco is only campground on the outer banks where you can see the ocean. Been coming here for 37 years and would not go anywhere else. Facility’s are more than adequate and staff are friendly. Recommended if you don’t need a luxury resort.

We appreciated the cleanliness of the campsite and the access to the beach. The only negative points are at the level of the chosen site #P063 which is parallel and almost in the street of the campsite, we had to park in the wrong direction. The second negative point is the fact that we are forbidden to ride a Fatbike on the beach, when we see dozens of 4x4 pick-ups circulating freely...it is totally illogical.

North (From Richmond, VA)
Follow I-95 South to Richmond, VA. Take I-64 East toward Norfolk/Virginia Beach, VA. Take I-64 or I-664 to Chesapeake, VA. From I-64, take Exit 291B to Route 168, the Chesapeake Expressway (a toll-road costing $3.00 - $6.00 each way). Once in North Carolina, Route 168 turns into US-158 East. Follow US-158 East through Nags Head, NC to the junction of NC-12 South. Continue on NC-12 South through the villages of Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, and Buxton. Once you reach Frisco take a left on Billy Mitchell Road and proceed to the campground.
West (From Rocky Mount, NC)
Follow US-64 East through Tarboro, Williamston, Plymouth, Columbia, and Manteo, crossing the Alligator River Bridge and the Virginia Dare Bridge. Keep going on US-64 East to Nags Head, NC, going over the Washington Baum Bridge, to the junction of NC-12 South. Turn right onto NC-12 South and you will be at the north entrance to Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Continue on NC-12 South through the villages of Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, and Buxton. Once you reach Frisco take a left on Billy Mitchell Road and proceed to the campground.
South (From Florence, SC)
Take I-95 North to Wilson, NC. Take US-264 East through Greenville, NC and Washington, NC. From Washington, NC, take US-17 to Williamston and follow US-64 East to Nags Head, NC and the junction of NC-12 South. (For an alternate route to NC-12 South, continue on I-95 North to Rocky Mount, NC. Take US-64 East through Tarboro, Williamston, Plymouth, Columbia, and Manteo, crossing the Alligator River Bridge and the Virginia Dare Bridge. Keep going on US-64 East to Nags Head, NC, going over the Washington Baum Bridge, to the junction of NC-12 South). Turn right onto NC-12 South and you will be at the north entrance to Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Continue on NC-12 South through the villages of Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, and Buxton. Frisco Campground is accessible via NC-12 South, which connects to US-158 East approximately 12 miles to the north. US-64 East also provides access from the west, connecting to NC-12 South at Nags Head.

Policies & Rules
General
- A reservation to camp is required. Same day reservations can be made based on availability.
- Camping is limited to a total of 14 days of camping between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Making reservations under another name or account to circumvent the 14 day restriction is prohibited.
- Generators must be turned off during quiet hours.
- Wood fires are not permitted in the campground. Only charcoal cooking fires are permitted in a grill, stove, or other self-contained unit.
- A fire may be ignited and maintained only by using fuel sources designed and commonly used for warmth or the preparation of food, such as charcoal briquettes or natural firewood. Lighting or maintaining a fire with other materials including, but not limited to, flammable liquids, garbage, fireworks, plastics, aerosol canisters, batteries, or other manufactured or synthetic materials, is prohibited.
- All equipment must fit on the site pad, large RVs over 25 feet may have to park second vehicles in auxiliary parking away from the campground, or purchase an additional campsite. Parking on the grass is prohibited.
- There is a limit of 6 persons per site, a maximum of 2 cars, or 1 car and 1 trailer, and a maximum of two tents.
- Biting insects are prevalent in the summer months, therefore netting and repellent are recommended.
- Most campsites are exposed and subject to weather extremes. There are limited sites with shade in the campground.
- The Access Pass and both the Senior Annual and Senior Lifetime Pass are the only passes that provide a discount on the fee for the campsite physically occupied by the pass owner, not to any additional campsite(s) occupied by members of the pass owner's party. The discount does not apply to utility hookups. The pass discount must be applied at the time of the reservation; it cannot be applied retroactively.
