I like the camp ground !! I don’t like the fact that there is very spotty and limited cellular service… this becomes a huge inconvenience when trying to modify reservation sites. Particularly if it’s your first visit. You actually have to make a list of the sites you like.. . Leave the campground to obtain service , and then check to see the availability… which sometimes is inaccurate on line. Due to such errors on line I actually had to break down my tent camp site and move because after going through the work of modifying my reservation. The site showed inconsistency, due to no cellular service I couldn’t show confirmation of my modification. Someone booked a night that conflicted my week long stay and they “ had to have the site I was camping in. Even though there were plenty of sites available. The Hosts checked when I set up camp and never said a word. The following afternoon the nes hosts demanded I show a confirmation email ( no service) so I had to pack everything vanc move to original booked site. Instead of having the one night guest use another site. But then when you’re dealing with volunteers who are very “ by the book” and very “black and white” I guess you’ll have these issues. Long story wrap up… I moved. Enjoyed my stay even with COLD SHOWERS . And the site I had to move from sat empty after the one nighters left.

Hosts were great, bathrooms clean, campground overall peaceful and quiet. No ticks or skeeters to speak of (early May) 4WD messed up one day so I had to hoof it to the beach to fish, easily walkable even with all my gear including 2 12' rods. This place is a hidden gem plenty of nice level sites.

This was our second trip to Frisco Campground and we stayed in the same spot both times. I think it’s the best spot for tent camping. Well-shaded, good amount of privacy, large spot, not too far from bathrooms and dumpster. We were there in early May and saw plenty of ticks and (harmless) spiders, so bring bug spray. Cold showers feel good after a long day at the beach in the sun. Star gazing is amazing here! The convenience store/tackle shop at the end of the street is perfect. They have free air to fill up your tires after you come off the 4x4 beach. We love this place and will definitely be back.

Good bare bones campground located in the dune line of beach. You can walk from your site to the beach in no time.

North (From Richmond, VA)
Follow I-95 South to Richmond, VA. Take I-64 East toward Norfolk/Virginia Beach, VA. Take I-64 or I-664 to Chesapeake, VA. From I-64, take Exit 291B to Route 168, the Chesapeake Expressway (a toll-road costing $3.00 - $6.00 each way). Once in North Carolina, Route 168 turns into US-158 East. Follow US-158 East through Nags Head, NC to the junction of NC-12 South. Continue on NC-12 South through the villages of Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, and Buxton. Once you reach Frisco take a left on Billy Mitchell Road and proceed to the campground.
West (From Rocky Mount, NC)
Follow US-64 East through Tarboro, Williamston, Plymouth, Columbia, and Manteo, crossing the Alligator River Bridge and the Virginia Dare Bridge. Keep going on US-64 East to Nags Head, NC, going over the Washington Baum Bridge, to the junction of NC-12 South. Turn right onto NC-12 South and you will be at the north entrance to Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Continue on NC-12 South through the villages of Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, and Buxton. Once you reach Frisco take a left on Billy Mitchell Road and proceed to the campground.
South (From Florence, SC)
Take I-95 North to Wilson, NC. Take US-264 East through Greenville, NC and Washington, NC. From Washington, NC, take US-17 to Williamston and follow US-64 East to Nags Head, NC and the junction of NC-12 South. (For an alternate route to NC-12 South, continue on I-95 North to Rocky Mount, NC. Take US-64 East through Tarboro, Williamston, Plymouth, Columbia, and Manteo, crossing the Alligator River Bridge and the Virginia Dare Bridge. Keep going on US-64 East to Nags Head, NC, going over the Washington Baum Bridge, to the junction of NC-12 South). Turn right onto NC-12 South and you will be at the north entrance to Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Continue on NC-12 South through the villages of Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, and Buxton. Frisco Campground is accessible via NC-12 South, which connects to US-158 East approximately 12 miles to the north. US-64 East also provides access from the west, connecting to NC-12 South at Nags Head.

Policies & Rules
General
- A reservation to camp is required. Same day reservations can be made based on availability.
- Camping is limited to a total of 14 days of camping between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Making reservations under another name or account to circumvent the 14 day restriction is prohibited.
- Generators must be turned off during quiet hours.
- Wood fires are not permitted in the campground. Only charcoal cooking fires are permitted in a grill, stove, or other self-contained unit.
- A fire may be ignited and maintained only by using fuel sources designed and commonly used for warmth or the preparation of food, such as charcoal briquettes or natural firewood. Lighting or maintaining a fire with other materials including, but not limited to, flammable liquids, garbage, fireworks, plastics, aerosol canisters, batteries, or other manufactured or synthetic materials, is prohibited.
- All equipment must fit on the site pad, large RVs over 25 feet may have to park second vehicles in auxiliary parking away from the campground, or purchase an additional campsite. Parking on the grass is prohibited.
- There is a limit of 6 persons per site, a maximum of 2 cars, or 1 car and 1 trailer, and a maximum of two tents.
- Biting insects are prevalent in the summer months, therefore netting and repellent are recommended.
- Most campsites are exposed and subject to weather extremes. There are limited sites with shade in the campground.
- The Access Pass and both the Senior Annual and Senior Lifetime Pass are the only passes that provide a discount on the fee for the campsite physically occupied by the pass owner, not to any additional campsite(s) occupied by members of the pass owner's party. The discount does not apply to utility hookups. The pass discount must be applied at the time of the reservation; it cannot be applied retroactively.
