The location is excellent. The access to the beach and to historic sites is excellent. If lighthouses are of interest, Bodie Island Lighthouse is very near. Cape Lookout lighthouse is not hard to get to as is the Currituck lighthouse. It takes a while to get to them, but the roads are okay. "The Lost Colony" drama in Manteo was one thing we came to see.

The only down side is that most sites do not have electricity, water, or sewer. Of the three, electricity would have been good as I was concerned that our battery would not be sufficient for running medical equipment. It was, but barely. More sites with electric are needed. If one is not in a position to make a reservation six months in advance, there is no possibility of getting a site with electric service.

It was good to have stayed in early June. The weather was not that hot, so we really did not need air conditioning for this stay, unlike the last time when we stayed in August. Still, I would go back again. I just would try to make a reservation early enough to get one of the sites with electric service.

Great location near Bodie Island Lighthouse and close enough to town to run get something if you forgot anything. Grill was well placed to block the wind. Grass was well trimmed. Bathrooms were okay but I found the shower more for just a rinse off.

No shade and always very hot in summer. However there is always a stiff breeze. Don’t go in summer without having an electric site to run AC. Great central point to going exploring the country side.

The campground is pretty good. We had a nice stay, just watch for the sandburs. We are in the tent area and also near the restroom. The sunrise and sunset at the to the beach is beautiful. Definitely recommends this campground.

Policies & Rules

General

  • All campsites are exposed and subject to weather extremes. There are no shaded sites in the campground.
  • Camping is limited to a total of 14 days of camping between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Making reservations under another name or account to circumvent the 14 day restriction is prohibited.
  • Generators must be turned off during quiet hours.
  • Wood fires are not permitted in the campground. Only charcoal cooking fires are permitted in a grill, stove, or other self-contained unit.
  • A fire may be ignited and maintained only by using fuel sources designed and commonly used for warmth or the preparation of food, such as charcoal briquettes or natural firewood. Lighting or maintaining a fire with other materials including, but not limited to, flammable liquids, garbage, fireworks, plastics, aerosol canisters, batteries, or other manufactured or synthetic materials, is prohibited.
  • All equipment must fit on the site pad; large RVs over 25 feet may have to park second vehicles in auxiliary parking away from the campground, or purchase an additional campsite. Vehicles cannot park on the grass.
  • Biting insects are prevalent in the summer months, therefore netting and repellent are recommended.
  • There is a limit of 6 persons per site, a maximum of 2 cars, or 1 car and 1 trailer, and a maximum of two tents.
  • The Access Pass and both the Senior Annual and Senior Lifetime Pass are the only passes that provide a discount on the fee for the campsite physically occupied by the pass owner, not to any additional campsite(s) occupied by members of the pass owner's party. The discount does not apply to utility hookups. The pass discount must be applied at the time of the reservation; it cannot be applied retroactively.
