We had a wonderful visit last week. We saw the park rangers patrolling the campgrounds many times through the day. We felt very safe. The grounds were well-maintained as well. We also saw the ranger patrolling the beach to keep beach goers safe. They pulled one truck over that was speeding on the beach which we all appreciated. The bathrooms were clean and well stocked also. All of the park rangers and host were very helpful when we had questions. Bodie lighthouse is only minutes away. Going into Nags Head is only a few minutes away for great restaurants and shopping. Downtown Manteo is about 15 minutes away.
We live staying at this national campground. It is very affordable and convenient to many areas.

Great campground! You can enjoy the quiet of the National Park while still being near to many activities. Enjoyed my time here. No Shade available so plan accordingly.

The bathrooms have a weird glow to them but the area around, duck and mantoe were amazing

Loved the setting with the dunes. Decent bathroom facilities and warm showers. However, with a 2-3 in. rain, my campsite flooded (B21). Campground is flood prone in several areas. Had to leave a day early. I would return, but would be careful of what site I chose.

Bring an outdoor screened tent to help with bugs/ rain.
Some of the sites flooded due to rain, so check the weather and call to see if your spot could flood.

Given the fact that this campground has hot water showers and some sites have water and electric, it is much more congested than the other NPS campgrounds on Hatteras. There is not much in the way of separation between sites, although we had a site with a large concentration of bushes at the back of our site. Backing into our sites was a bit more challenging due to the site congestion and narrow roadway, but doable. There are several beaches nearby and it is a short drive to restaurants, grocery stores and historical sites.

We absolutely loved this campground! ⛺️ it's easy to find and well organized. We easily found our campsite and quickly got set up. The sites are pretty close together, but still comfortably spaced apart. The bathrooms and showers are really nice. And its conveniently close to all the bigger OBX attractions on the northern end.
And booking reservations is even easier and very organized! Our most recent stay at the campground was our first, albeit our third attempt. 😉 We'd made three prior reservations, but had to cancel for personal reasons. But each time we booked, it was very easy and even cancellation was easy and fair. We plan on staying here many more times in the future! 🤘😁🤘

North (From Richmond, VA)
Follow I-95 South to Richmond, VA. Take I-64 East toward Norfolk/Virginia Beach, VA. Take I-64 or I-664 to Chesapeake, VA. From I-64, take Exit 291B to Route 168, the Chesapeake Expressway (a toll-road costing $3.00- $6.00 each way). Once in North Carolina, Route 168 turns into US-158 East. Follow US-158 East through Nags Head, NC to the junction of NC-12 South. Continue on NC-12 South, and the campground will be on your left just before you reach Bonner Bridge over Oregon Inlet.
West (From Rocky Mount, NC)
Follow US-64 East through Tarboro, Williamston, Plymouth, Columbia, and Manteo, crossing the Alligator River Bridge and the Virginia Dare Bridge. Keep going on US-64 East to Nags Head, NC, going over the Washington Baum Bridge, to the junction of NC-12 South. Turn right onto NC-12 South and you will be at the north entrance. Continue on NC-12 South, and the campground will be on your left just before you reach Bonner Bridge over Oregon Inlet.
South (From Florence, SC)
Take I-95 North to Wilson, NC. Take US-264 East through Greenville, NC and Washington, NC. From Washington, NC, take US-17 to Williamston and follow US-64 East to Nags Head, NC and the junction of NC-12 South. Continue on NC-12 South, and the campground will be on your left just before you reach Bonner Bridge over Oregon Inlet.
Oregon Inlet Campground is accessible via NC-12 South, which connects to US-158 East and is reached from I-64 and US-64. US-64 provides access from the west, while US-158 serves as a primary route from the north and east.

Policies & Rules
General
- All campsites are exposed and subject to weather extremes. There are no shaded sites in the campground.
- Camping is limited to a total of 14 days of camping between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Making reservations under another name or account to circumvent the 14 day restriction is prohibited.
- Generators must be turned off during quiet hours.
- Wood fires are not permitted in the campground. Only charcoal cooking fires are permitted in a grill, stove, or other self-contained unit.
- A fire may be ignited and maintained only by using fuel sources designed and commonly used for warmth or the preparation of food, such as charcoal briquettes or natural firewood. Lighting or maintaining a fire with other materials including, but not limited to, flammable liquids, garbage, fireworks, plastics, aerosol canisters, batteries, or other manufactured or synthetic materials, is prohibited.
- All equipment must fit on the site pad; large RVs over 25 feet may have to park second vehicles in auxiliary parking away from the campground, or purchase an additional campsite. Vehicles cannot park on the grass.
- Biting insects are prevalent in the summer months, therefore netting and repellent are recommended.
- There is a limit of 6 persons per site, a maximum of 2 cars, or 1 car and 1 trailer, and a maximum of two tents.
- The Access Pass and both the Senior Annual and Senior Lifetime Pass are the only passes that provide a discount on the fee for the campsite physically occupied by the pass owner, not to any additional campsite(s) occupied by members of the pass owner's party. The discount does not apply to utility hookups. The pass discount must be applied at the time of the reservation; it cannot be applied retroactively.
