Fairly quiet. Great location. I loved the fact that the ranger station had USB connecters outside so you could charge your phone. My only complaint is that there were few paths to get to the central restroom that did not involve walking all around the loop on the road, or else cutting through the edge of someone else's campground.

Very nice campground! We were here for 5 nights in 3 sites (having made our reservation just a couple of days before our arrival), and we were very pleased with all of the sites. The campground is well-managed and the restroom and showers were clean and very nice.

Very clean bathrooms, except for the air vents those have a good year or more's worth of dust on them, not so clean air, but the floor, toilets (nice) and sinks are well kept. Showers are ... I didn't use those. I wouldn't, or I'd have to deduct more stars.. Good thing it was just a night!

Just let me say that we usually love this campground, but not this time of year. It's too hot if you can't get a site with water & electric to run the AC. We were meeting family there. We all ended up leaving early. The cooler months are our favorite times to visit. It's not wall to wall crowded & hot with high humidity!
Also, now that the marina across the busy road has been renovated & remodeled, the accessibility to the dump station is not good at all. Same old small dump facility that now requires you to maneuver your rig through the very narrow & crowed corridor. It's actually confusing as to which way to get to it now. But then again, it's that time of year when it gets real busy at the OBX

Great campground especially for the price. Hot showers, clean bathrooms, large spaces to camp. You can run a generator during the day (not during quiet hours), the beach is a close walk. Getting to the beach; it is best if you can drive on the beach. There is a part of the beach that is heavy with sand which makes it very hard to pull or push a cart through the sand. So walking is a great workout and easier than a cart, but it is a workout.

We have been coming there for years. My concern is with the people that ignore the rules on generators. The camper next to us ran an extension cord into the sand dunes behind us and ran his generator all night. Someone needs to enforce the rules. Im sure if the tall grass caught on fire then there would be enforcement done. It only takes one or two people to ruin things for many.

North (From Richmond, VA)
Follow I-95 South to Richmond, VA. Take I-64 East toward Norfolk/Virginia Beach, VA. Take I-64 or I-664 to Chesapeake, VA. From I-64, take Exit 291B to Route 168, the Chesapeake Expressway (a toll-road costing $3.00- $6.00 each way). Once in North Carolina, Route 168 turns into US-158 East. Follow US-158 East through Nags Head, NC to the junction of NC-12 South. Continue on NC-12 South, and the campground will be on your left just before you reach Bonner Bridge over Oregon Inlet.
West (From Rocky Mount, NC)
Follow US-64 East through Tarboro, Williamston, Plymouth, Columbia, and Manteo, crossing the Alligator River Bridge and the Virginia Dare Bridge. Keep going on US-64 East to Nags Head, NC, going over the Washington Baum Bridge, to the junction of NC-12 South. Turn right onto NC-12 South and you will be at the north entrance. Continue on NC-12 South, and the campground will be on your left just before you reach Bonner Bridge over Oregon Inlet.
South (From Florence, SC)
Take I-95 North to Wilson, NC. Take US-264 East through Greenville, NC and Washington, NC. From Washington, NC, take US-17 to Williamston and follow US-64 East to Nags Head, NC and the junction of NC-12 South. Continue on NC-12 South, and the campground will be on your left just before you reach Bonner Bridge over Oregon Inlet.
Oregon Inlet Campground is accessible via NC-12 South, which connects to US-158 East and is reached from I-64 and US-64. US-64 provides access from the west, while US-158 serves as a primary route from the north and east.
Elevation: 2 feet
12 mi drive to downtown Nags Head (about 15 min)
Policies & Rules
General
- All campsites are exposed and subject to weather extremes. There are no shaded sites in the campground.
- Camping is limited to a total of 14 days of camping between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Making reservations under another name or account to circumvent the 14 day restriction is prohibited.
- Generators must be turned off during quiet hours.
- Wood fires are not permitted in the campground. Only charcoal cooking fires are permitted in a grill, stove, or other self-contained unit.
- A fire may be ignited and maintained only by using fuel sources designed and commonly used for warmth or the preparation of food, such as charcoal briquettes or natural firewood. Lighting or maintaining a fire with other materials including, but not limited to, flammable liquids, garbage, fireworks, plastics, aerosol canisters, batteries, or other manufactured or synthetic materials, is prohibited.
- All equipment must fit on the site pad; large RVs over 25 feet may have to park second vehicles in auxiliary parking away from the campground, or purchase an additional campsite. Vehicles cannot park on the grass.
- Biting insects are prevalent in the summer months, therefore netting and repellent are recommended.
- There is a limit of 6 persons per site, a maximum of 2 cars, or 1 car and 1 trailer, and a maximum of two tents.
- The Access Pass and both the Senior Annual and Senior Lifetime Pass are the only passes that provide a discount on the fee for the campsite physically occupied by the pass owner, not to any additional campsite(s) occupied by members of the pass owner's party. The discount does not apply to utility hookups. The pass discount must be applied at the time of the reservation; it cannot be applied retroactively.
