The area was absolutely beautiful. The mosquitoes were unbearable along with small bugs that could go through tent netting. Campsites are way too close to one another, barely a place for your tent and to park your vehicle. Showers are outdoors and awkward. There is a front office that never has anyone in it. I would not recommend this campground to anyone that likes camping.

This is a fantastic campground. Friendly staff (the volunteer who mows the sites has a wealth of fishing knowledge about the area), and a nice clean bathhouse. You can take a short hike over the dune for beach access or lower the pressure in your 4x4 and drive on the beach.

Site was very small. Sand Spurs where plentiful. Hot and windy during the day (10 degrees hotter than the weather app) The wind would stop at night and was stay inside buggy. Came home two days early and got a partial refund.

Easy access off Highway 12 with both sound and ocean sides close by. Restrooms and showers were clean. Camping spots were spaced well enough apart from other guests. Plenty of activities available near by like a bike path, aquarium, Lost Colony, paddle boarding, lighthouse, etc. Minutes driving to grocery, restaurants, retain, and local entertainment like mini golfing. Unfortunately I was caught in a lead-up to a major storm and the exposure to wind caved in my tent so I wasn't able to enjoy my full stay - but I'm excited about planning my next visit!

Policies & Rules

General

  • All campsites are exposed and subject to weather extremes. There are no shaded sites in the campground.
  • Camping is limited to a total of 14 days of camping between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Making reservations under another name or account to circumvent the 14 day restriction is prohibited.
  • Generators must be turned off during quiet hours.
  • Wood fires are not permitted in the campground. Only charcoal cooking fires are permitted in a grill, stove, or other self-contained unit.
  • A fire may be ignited and maintained only by using fuel sources designed and commonly used for warmth or the preparation of food, such as charcoal briquettes or natural firewood. Lighting or maintaining a fire with other materials including, but not limited to, flammable liquids, garbage, fireworks, plastics, aerosol canisters, batteries, or other manufactured or synthetic materials, is prohibited.
  • All equipment must fit on the site pad; large RVs over 25 feet may have to park second vehicles in auxiliary parking away from the campground, or purchase an additional campsite. Vehicles cannot park on the grass.
  • Biting insects are prevalent in the summer months, therefore netting and repellent are recommended.
  • There is a limit of 6 persons per site, a maximum of 2 cars, or 1 car and 1 trailer, and a maximum of two tents.
  • The Access Pass and both the Senior Annual and Senior Lifetime Pass are the only passes that provide a discount on the fee for the campsite physically occupied by the pass owner, not to any additional campsite(s) occupied by members of the pass owner's party. The discount does not apply to utility hookups. The pass discount must be applied at the time of the reservation; it cannot be applied retroactively.
