Not recommended for tent camping. The showers were gross and bathrooms were gross. I got bit up by mosquitoes while trying to use the bathroom. I had to leave my reservation early and get a hotel.

We stayed one night for the meteor shower, camp ground was quiet and clean.

I recommend Ocracoke and the campground to pretty much everyone I speak to. It's literally Heaven on Earth. Very well kept and the campground staff were extremely helpful. Only thing I would change is the mosquitos... they're relentless and pack a much stronger bite than those we have in East TN. Must not be much they can do in the grassier sites but with that being the only real complaint, I'll happily take it.

We loved it here! Camped in tents, lots of sun made it hot and lots of tiny no see ums and horsefly’s made for a long week, but the location of Ocracoke and the beautiful beach made up for all of that.

We cut our vacation short because I did not see the little bit about No generator use from 10p-6a, I am not heat tolerant, nor are my 4 dogs camping with us, we tried it one night, Nope. I will say the beach was perfect, nice breeze, beautiful. Not only will we not return to that park, we will not return to Orcacoke Island in general. We waited in line for a Ferry to leave the island for 3 hours, again Nope.

Great campground with even greater beach.
Beautiful, huge and nearly all for ourselves.
Insects where present from dusk till dawn, repellent is absolutely necessary.

Our campsite D17 was a short walk over the dune from the beach. We had plenty of room for a screen tent and 2 smaller sleeping tents. There was even a bit of shade there, which is not true of all Ocracoke sites.
My only complaint is that the D Loop is supposed to be the generator free zone, but in fact it is not. We called the non-emergency phone number our first night to complain about a neighbor using their generator throughout the early evening hours. They put us in touch with a NPS law enforcement ranger, who was very nice, but unfortunately stated that their compendium does not allow for enforcement of the D Loop as a generator free zone. They could only intervene if a generator is used after 10pm. We were planning for a quieter wilderness experience, but this was not the case. Fortunately, our noisy neighbor left before us, and we did enjoy a few quiet evenings!
Beautiful campground, and overall we had a pleasant time.

Dear Campers in Loop D, please observe the "No Generators in D Loop," policy before you make your reservations. D loop is for tent camping. If you need power, please invest in solar.

An absolute MUST!
Part of the famous Great Loop, starting from Norfolk, VI and camping @Ocracoke Campsite was one of the best tours I've taken on my Harley, solo.
That little island is... enchanted, for lack of better words.
Just DO IT!

General
- Ocracoke is accessible only by ferry or aircraft. Ferry reservations may be required during peak season.
- Camping is limited to a total of 14 days of camping between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Making reservations under another name or account to circumvent the 14 day restriction is prohibited.
- Generators are allowed throughout the campground and must be turned off during quiet hours.
- Wood fires are not permitted in the campground. Only charcoal cooking fires are permitted in a grill, stove, or other self-contained unit.
- A fire may be ignited and maintained only by using fuel sources designed and commonly used for warmth or the preparation of food, such as charcoal briquettes or natural firewood. Lighting or maintaining a fire with other materials including, but not limited to, flammable liquids, garbage, fireworks, plastics, aerosol canisters, batteries, or other manufactured or synthetic materials, is prohibited.
- All equipment must fit on the site pad. If you have a large RV over 25 feet, you may have to park your second vehicle in the auxiliary parking area just outside the campground or purchase an additional campsite. Vehicles may not be parked on grass.
- At each campsite, there is a limit of six people, two cars (or one car and one trailer), and two tents.
- After heavy rain there may be areas of standing water due to the low terrain.
- Biting insects are prevalent in summer months. Netting and repellent are recommended.
- Campsites are exposed and subject to weather extremes. There are no shaded sites.
- Must be 18 yrs of age to reserve a site.
