Our camp site inoperable, flooded out for 4 days until it dried out. We had booked 2 sites and so everyone was at the other site. 1/2 the campground was flooded out. This flooding happens several times per summer and has been that way for the past 22 years of our camping at this camp ground in Ocracoke, just ask the camp hosts or anyone that works there. ------- Very simple fix, raise each campsite and slope the water away. A large piece of equipment could do this to every site in a few days. There is sand right there to use to raise it. If you want to spend a little more and do it right, put in drainage and have it drain into the creek that runs along the campground. If a private business owned this campground this would have been done years ago!!!!

D015 was absolutely, by far the best spot at the campground. It was extremely private and we basically had our very own beach entrance. However, because the tent pad is located so far back from the pavement and dirt, (1) make sure you bring sand tent stakes and (2) beware of higher winds---they seem to sweep across the grassy expanse right behind the tent pad and pummel this spot more than others.
I've read other people's complaints of bugs, but they weren't *that* bad. The mesh on our tent was tight enough to keep them out at night. As others have also mentioned, definitely bring your own source of shade (canopy, umbrella) because even the ground gets hot really fast.
Overall, a clean, quiet campground with well-maintained bathrooms and helpful rangers. Unbeatable remote location and natural beauty.

I'm curious as to why the following rules are not enforced: dogs off leash in campground and beach, vehicles at camp sites parked off of paved areas and checking out by noon.

General
- Ocracoke is accessible only by ferry or aircraft. Ferry reservations may be required during peak season.
- Camping is limited to a total of 14 days of camping between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Making reservations under another name or account to circumvent the 14 day restriction is prohibited.
- Generators are allowed throughout the campground and must be turned off during quiet hours.
- Wood fires are not permitted in the campground. Only charcoal cooking fires are permitted in a grill, stove, or other self-contained unit.
- A fire may be ignited and maintained only by using fuel sources designed and commonly used for warmth or the preparation of food, such as charcoal briquettes or natural firewood. Lighting or maintaining a fire with other materials including, but not limited to, flammable liquids, garbage, fireworks, plastics, aerosol canisters, batteries, or other manufactured or synthetic materials, is prohibited.
- All equipment must fit on the site pad. If you have a large RV over 25 feet, you may have to park your second vehicle in the auxiliary parking area just outside the campground or purchase an additional campsite. Vehicles may not be parked on grass.
- At each campsite, there is a limit of six people, two cars (or one car and one trailer), and two tents.
- After heavy rain there may be areas of standing water due to the low terrain.
- Biting insects are prevalent in summer months. Netting and repellent are recommended.
- Campsites are exposed and subject to weather extremes. There are no shaded sites.
- Must be 18 yrs of age to reserve a site.
