What Guests Are Saying

Ocracoke Campground offers a beautiful, well-maintained setting with easy access to a stunning beach, making it a favorite among campers. Many reviews highlight the campground's cleanliness, helpful staff, and the peaceful atmosphere, ideal for relaxation and stargazing. However, some campers noted issues with mosquitoes, generator noise in the D Loop, and occasional maintenance concerns, but overall, the positive experiences outweigh the negatives, with many expressing a desire to return.

Booking the site was slow and prone to glitching on my phone.
The campground is very nice, lots of bushes to give privacy, following trail through the dunes to the beach was an adventure and a short easy hike rewarded by the beautiful beach.
In late August there were a very large number of midges or gnats or whatever they are called.
This campground has showers and bathrooms, but no power, water or sewer at the sites, so make sure you are prepared.

Most of the reserved campgrounds were ponded with water. Most of the people were not sure what to do as many of them travelled a long distance to get in here. Awful timing!!

We camped with our tents at b8 and there is a toilet behind the camp site. Men's toilet was clogged with toilet paper. Also it rained 2 days before our camp day and there was water logging at many of the sites. It is impossible to put up a tent on such sites. RV must stand on water on such sites. Something must be done to make sure the water flows off the campground.
My campsite was a little damp and we put up the tent on the tar available behind our car.
It's advisable to carry bug spray
Beach is just a 2minute walk across the sand dunes. The pony pen and the Ocracoke village are 5-10minutes by car. The Cedar ferry terminal and the ocracoke lighthouse are at the Ocracoke village. The Hatteras ferry terminal is probably 15mins drive from the campsite.

Ocracoke and the campgrounds are underrated gem of the east coast with beatiful beaches and an unmatched atmosphere that somehow still retains its serinity despite all the foottraffic. We loved seeing the milk way and the moon rise on the water. For the campground itself, the bathrooms and showers were well-kept, but our campsite somehow ended up double booked for the weekend but the other group moved on after the first night. That may have been a website booking error.

We had an excellent time at the Ocracoke campground. The beaches were just a short 1-minute walk over the sand dune. The grounds were clean, though the grass could have been cut, it was extremely high. You get used to the cold showers, they are more refreshing then you think! I think with electricity, this campground would be perfection!

Short walk to pristine protected national shoreline - what more can be said about location. It's fantastic. Rated as "semi-primitive" tent camping. There are showers, water, bathrooms available. There is very little shade from the small shrubs that grow so be prepared for some miserable hot days when temperatures are high. Plan accordingly. Cell signals are weak. I was traveling on motorcycle which presents some challenges if you find yourself in a thunderstorm - you'll have to scurry to the bath house for protection from the lightning.

Oftentimes very competent campground staff are not in office. Hire more crew. Great campground though.

Beautiful campground that really lacks decent showers with at least warm water. Who ever heard of camping without a campfire?? It's terrible. We always look forward to sitting around a campfire at night doing su'mores with the kids. There's nothing out there that will burn! You can't get sand and crab grass to ignite. All the trees are way on the otherside of the highway. Besides there's a huge fire dept. 3 minutes away.
