Great location just across the dunes from the beach. The sites are large and the pads level. A large camper might have trouble fitting on the pads, but ours fit fine. Warm showers would have made the experience perfect.

Excellent campground. No hot water in showers but may not be a problem obviously in warmer months. I camped in mid May and it was freezing.

The camp host was so kind and helpful. She greeted us on our first evening and made sure when knew all the key info and throughout our stay anytime we needed anything she was right there making herself 100% available. The hammock hills nature trail across the street is a must do. Highest point on the island is there. My son made sure we took a walk there every morning and evening our entire stay. Lifeguard beach is better suited for entertaining children in the water. Steep drop off at campground beach area.

Ocracoke campground is one of our favorite places to visit. We usually take a couple trips a year to visit this special place. I don't shop much, but enjoy all the local shops and art, and the coffe on the island is the BESt!!. Great place to shell....I am a shellaholic. Best place on the East Coast to unwind and just breathe.

The campground is beautifully maintainted and was the highlight of accomodations for our Outer Banks trip. Mosquitos and other biting insects were minimal during our stay the first week in May. It's just a short hike to the beautiful beach, but it does require some exertion through deep soft sand and climbing the trail over the dunes. The dunes do provide a break from much of the onshore wind - but this is a windy place, so be prepared. Ocracoke Village has everyting you need. We had good meals at Howard's Pub and at SmacNally's. A nicely maintained 3 mile bike trail takes you safely along the highway into town. Picknic tables at the boat ramp make for a nice sunset meal with pizza picked up from Sorella's. We are ready to go back!
