Our stay was overall a grade B-. We invested in the quietest generator on the market to run our A/C but we were required to shut it off at 10pm. We knew this going in but if they were to implement a decibel level ceiling for generators, that’d be great. It was around 74 degrees at night with no breeze, we baked in our Airstream. Or, better yet, install some electric if it’s gotta be quiet at night. Bring bug spray, again, we knew this coming in, just passing along the fact that the misquitoes mean business. The showers (cold) are very clean as is the bathroom in general. The parking spaces are also well paved and large enough (wide and long).

Clean restrooms are great. Unheated showers are fine on hot days.

Great campground overall if you want deserted beach experience. No hotels or buildings. We could see the Milky Way several nights. The bugs were not bad this trip. The weather was also lovely. And though there were many campers, you couldn’t really hear the generators. This was a great week to go because not too many loud families were there yet. I’ve been coming here four years and it’s such a magical place.

We messed up by not reserving the correct days and could not update our stay
If it was not for NCFerry we would have to stayed at Ocracoke in our car in a parking lot some where
There is a need for live people to talk to you when you need assistance on the island

Be prepared to visit the nicest beach of the east coast. Nothing negative except ugly generator noises.

This campsite is only for the brave and adventurous! We’ve had it twice now. First in October and the mosquitoes were relentless. Second was in July and the black flies were even worse.. Woke up to hundreds that had gotten through the tent screen and were basically trapped turning us into a giant biting fly trap! Some animal took our small trash bag one evening after just walking up the dune to see the beach (don’t worry they got what they were after and we cleaned up the mess with smiles on our faces, lesson learned). Your own scenic trail to the beach is a big plus and has plenty of privacy. Recommend setting up past the trees more out in the open (this last time we set up in the trees to avoid rain and think that’s the reason for the black flies). Shortish walk to the restrooms and shower house but bring plenty of water and definitely bug spray. Adventure awaits!

General
- Ocracoke is accessible only by ferry or aircraft. Ferry reservations may be required during peak season.
- Camping is limited to a total of 14 days of camping between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Making reservations under another name or account to circumvent the 14 day restriction is prohibited.
- Generators are allowed throughout the campground and must be turned off during quiet hours.
- Wood fires are not permitted in the campground. Only charcoal cooking fires are permitted in a grill, stove, or other self-contained unit.
- A fire may be ignited and maintained only by using fuel sources designed and commonly used for warmth or the preparation of food, such as charcoal briquettes or natural firewood. Lighting or maintaining a fire with other materials including, but not limited to, flammable liquids, garbage, fireworks, plastics, aerosol canisters, batteries, or other manufactured or synthetic materials, is prohibited.
- All equipment must fit on the site pad. If you have a large RV over 25 feet, you may have to park your second vehicle in the auxiliary parking area just outside the campground or purchase an additional campsite. Vehicles may not be parked on grass.
- At each campsite, there is a limit of six people, two cars (or one car and one trailer), and two tents.
- After heavy rain there may be areas of standing water due to the low terrain.
- Biting insects are prevalent in summer months. Netting and repellent are recommended.
- Campsites are exposed and subject to weather extremes. There are no shaded sites.
- Must be 18 yrs of age to reserve a site.
