We had a wonderful stay at Ocracoke Campground! The location is hard to beat. You're just a short walk from the beach, and it was the perfect place to relax after spending the day exploring the island.
A few tips for future campers:
* Bring plenty of bug spray.
* There is no natural shade, so having a canopy or some extra shade makes the afternoons much more comfortable.
* Be sure to catch at least one sunset on the sound. It's worth it.
* D-Loop is generator free all the time so don't book in d-loop if you plan on using a generator
This has become an annual family tradition for us, and we look forward to coming back every year. Ocracoke Campground is a big part of what makes the trip so special. If you're looking for a relaxing campground with easy beach access and a great place to make lasting family memories, we highly recommend it!

It was warmer than we wanted, but the outside showers are excellent! The baths and showers were clean and our stay was delightful!

We love Ocracoke! The campgrounds were very nice! Bring your bug spray at night because you will need it! Very nice and clean! Will def be back to stay! We have camped here about 8 years ago and we love it!

Awesome campground. Showers are cold but its great in the summer months. Bathrooms were clean and everything was functional.

The over all experience of the campground was wonderful. Ocracoke is a beautiful island. If you want a forced relaxation vacation this is the place to be. Beautiful beaches, easy nature trails, kayaking and easy access to everything in town. We had a great time.

We usually like to reserve dune sites, but ended up in back on site B28. We camp with dogs and they need to wear boots to avoid the sand burs. It turns out there aren't any burs( or very minimal) in the back area.
Low mosquito count during our stay. Bathrooms were clean.
Only problem we had was camper near us ran his generator all night, during our in the grass. Years ago, rangers would drive around at 10 to remind campers of quiet time and no generators. This year, nobody came around all week. Daughter was sleeping in a tent and was very annoyed at the loud generator every night.
Had great beach time, we drive ORV and buy the 10 day permit. Can't wait to go back to my favorite beach in the world!

Overall, I had a good experience for the five nights I stayed at the Ocracoke campground. When in contact with the staff they seemed friendly. The restrooms/shower facilities were were cleaned regularly.
I have one major complaint: Up until recently generators were not allowed in Loop D. Now they are! Since there are three other Loops for people who want to run generators, why not keep one Loop generator-free? Please consider this change!

On the website it says there could be some standing water. It rained & my campsite had a foot of water all around. I had to leave early & couldn't enjoy the whole weekend. If it’s raining most campsites there should be blocked off.

Tent camped for 7 days at site D3. The bad: site has cactus, burrs, mice, and a black snake; during the day we battled birds, flies, and biting flies; during the evening and into the night we were under siege by mosquitoes, and no see ums; the temperatures were low 80’s yet the sun seemed relentless; the wind and rain came on strong and could pick up weighted tents into the air 15 ft and throw them 50 ft. The good: We came prepared for it all and had an Awesome time!!! Thanks for the tan, shells, and memories. Can’t wait until next year!

General
- Ocracoke is accessible only by ferry or aircraft. Ferry reservations may be required during peak season.
- Camping is limited to a total of 14 days of camping between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Making reservations under another name or account to circumvent the 14 day restriction is prohibited.
- Generators are allowed throughout the campground and must be turned off during quiet hours.
- Wood fires are not permitted in the campground. Only charcoal cooking fires are permitted in a grill, stove, or other self-contained unit.
- A fire may be ignited and maintained only by using fuel sources designed and commonly used for warmth or the preparation of food, such as charcoal briquettes or natural firewood. Lighting or maintaining a fire with other materials including, but not limited to, flammable liquids, garbage, fireworks, plastics, aerosol canisters, batteries, or other manufactured or synthetic materials, is prohibited.
- All equipment must fit on the site pad. If you have a large RV over 25 feet, you may have to park your second vehicle in the auxiliary parking area just outside the campground or purchase an additional campsite. Vehicles may not be parked on grass.
- At each campsite, there is a limit of six people, two cars (or one car and one trailer), and two tents.
- After heavy rain there may be areas of standing water due to the low terrain.
- Biting insects are prevalent in summer months. Netting and repellent are recommended.
- Campsites are exposed and subject to weather extremes. There are no shaded sites.
- Must be 18 yrs of age to reserve a site.
