Ocracoke Campground offers a beautiful, well-maintained setting with easy access to a stunning beach, making it a favorite among campers. Many reviews highlight the campground's cleanliness, helpful staff, and the peaceful atmosphere, ideal for relaxation and stargazing. However, some campers noted issues with mosquitoes, generator noise in the D Loop, and occasional maintenance concerns, but overall, the positive experiences outweigh the negatives, with many expressing a desire to return.

Great campground! Nicely spaced sites, easy access to beach and town, laid back environment. Only thing we missed was being to have fires.

I usually come here in early March when it's less busy and cooler but while it was definitely more crowded, it was still a great experience. Bonus: the showers were turned on! These are VERY basic seasonal (April-October) cold showers in an outdoor stall, not within the bathhouse, but I gave it a try and it was less traumatizing than expected. I was in campsite D007 - that side of the loop is my favorite. You can hear the ocean at night and it seems less buggy. Someone hoisted a pirate flag in the dune behind us, which I loved. People were nice and everyone was mindful of the quiet hours. I've been coming here for a few years now and it's a very chill campground, family oriented. My only complaint is that for some reason this time, there seemed to be a lot of dogs off leash. My dog can be fearful of some dogs so it was a bit stressful to constantly monitor the campground and the beach for loose dogs but thankfully there were not incidents. I just wish this was enforced a little better.
As far as activities: the beach, first and foremost. Great shelling and not crowded, and you can walk forever. For me, that is the biggest draw. Ocracoke Village is 4 mi away and is very quaint, friendly people, local shops and restaurants and no chain stores at all, it's fun to check out. It can get busy with the small streets, lack of parking and golf carts so I usually just stay put at the campground. Hatteras Island is a 1-hour ferry ride away, if you feel like taking a trip within your trip.

My opinion about the campground itself is a 4 star but my experience I downgraded to a 3 star primarily because I chose the wrong site. I'm a tent camper and was surrounded by RVs and their generators (which I do not like). If you're a tent camper I'd suggest getting one nearest to the beach side. Although the sites are fairly close to each other, the campground itself was very good - good toilets and showers (but cold water!) and secure. The beach is a short walk across some dunes and the location of this place is a 10 min drive to the charming port town of Ocracoke.

It was a nice quiet campground.
The shower facilities are 100% cold water- unlike the Oregon inlet campground where their showers are warm.
Everything else was great.
