This was a great site tucked in between bushes for privacy. Private path between beautiful dunes to the beach. Bathrooms were clean and warm.

Enjoy off grid camping. Bring solar panels for power so you won't run a noisy generator. Clean restrooms. Nice outdoor showers in warm weather.

Loved being on the island. Short walk through the dunes to the ocean. Only thing to improve would be a warm shower. Didn’t like taking a cold shower.

I stayed at Ocracoke Campground during a recent trip, and it was exactly what I was hoping for. My site was essentially beachfront-just a short hike over the dunes and you’re right on the ocean. There’s something pretty great about climbing a dune in the morning and having the beach open up in front of you.
One of the biggest perks was the ORV access right next to the campground. I was able to drive my vehicle straight onto the beach, which made the whole experience even better.
Timing helped too as it was still on the cooler side, so the bugs were basically a non-issue. If you’ve ever camped on the coast in peak season, you know that’s a huge win.
Facilities are fairly minimal, but what’s there is well maintained. The bathrooms were clean, well lit, and in good shape. There are cold water showers (I passed on those, but maybe next time if I’m feeling brave). Each site had a picnic table and a solid parking pad, which made setup easy.
My only real wish is that they’d add a dishwashing sink as it would go a long way for campers staying multiple nights.
Overall, it’s a simple, no-frills campground in an unbeatable location. I’ll definitely be back.

D11 feels private with brush on either side and a cool path over the dunes to the ocean. Camp attendant makes frequent rounds and it feels very safe. Love staying here throughout the year.

Easily our favorite campground on the Outer Banks of NC. Hard to get to, worth the effort. Every single time. Bring your solar panels and plug into the sun for endless electricity!

D7 site was in a great location - sand path behind site led over the dunes to the beach and the site was across the road from the bathroom. Super convenient for our family. Water spigot, we used to collect dishwater, next to bathroom. Heads up there are sand burs and creeping cactus around the site - we learned this the hard way, setting up camp at night ;)

General
- Ocracoke is accessible only by ferry or aircraft. Ferry reservations may be required during peak season.
- Camping is limited to a total of 14 days of camping between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Making reservations under another name or account to circumvent the 14 day restriction is prohibited.
- Generators are allowed throughout the campground and must be turned off during quiet hours.
- Wood fires are not permitted in the campground. Only charcoal cooking fires are permitted in a grill, stove, or other self-contained unit.
- A fire may be ignited and maintained only by using fuel sources designed and commonly used for warmth or the preparation of food, such as charcoal briquettes or natural firewood. Lighting or maintaining a fire with other materials including, but not limited to, flammable liquids, garbage, fireworks, plastics, aerosol canisters, batteries, or other manufactured or synthetic materials, is prohibited.
- All equipment must fit on the site pad. If you have a large RV over 25 feet, you may have to park your second vehicle in the auxiliary parking area just outside the campground or purchase an additional campsite. Vehicles may not be parked on grass.
- At each campsite, there is a limit of six people, two cars (or one car and one trailer), and two tents.
- After heavy rain there may be areas of standing water due to the low terrain.
- Biting insects are prevalent in summer months. Netting and repellent are recommended.
- Campsites are exposed and subject to weather extremes. There are no shaded sites.
- Must be 18 yrs of age to reserve a site.
