Loud during the day (lots of gasoline generator on the campground)
Except that, it was amazing !! Nice beach and spots on campground. Restrooms and showers were not so bad but could be cleaner.

This was our first visit with the family to the Ocracoke campground and it was the BEST experience ever starting with JD checking us in. He was so gracious and kind. He came back to us knowing we were first timers and gave us recommendations marked off on the Ocracoke visitor’s map. It was extremely helpful! We loved it there so much, while sitting and enjoying the day watching our kids play corn hole, we decided and booked another visit in July!

In fairness, we did book our campsite during the long July 4th holiday weekend. That still doesn’t excuse most of the bad behavior exhibited by campers. The issues: The campground was overcrowded as many sites exceeded the maximum number of people stated for campsites. Many dog owners exercised little control over their pets (constant barking, dog feces left around the campground, and dogs unleashed). Trash was strewn throughout the campground. One campsite, in D Loop, regularly used a noisy gas-powered generator in a loop that prohibits generators. Quiet hours were never observed and were never enforced. Bathrooms and showers were dirty and odorous.
If these issues are not addressed and remedied, we doubt we will ever return to Ocracoke campground. That is unfortunate as the island is, overall, a beautiful seaside getaway.

The site was well located and had some shade. Unfortunately there were egg shells and other garbage in the bushes which really took away from the experience

Ocracoke campgrounds were great! The beach is not far, just over a sand dune. Very easy access via multiple trails. The bathrooms and showers worked fine well we where there. The shower water was around room temperature water. Definitely recommend camping here if you're planning a trip to ocracoke. We went in July, bugs were out and we didn't get bit quit a decent amount so bring bug spray/nets.

The bugs, specifically the no-see-ums were atrocious. People were arriving throughout the middle of the night and setting up tents at midnight/1am at multiple campsites next to and near us.

Bath facilities were not up to par. Bathrooms were hot and covered in bugs and mosquitoes. It was difficult to get to the beach. We had a family next to us that kept us awake. We actually left one day earlier than planned. I wouldn't stay there again, especially in the summer.

General
- Ocracoke is accessible only by ferry or aircraft. Ferry reservations may be required during peak season.
- Camping is limited to a total of 14 days of camping between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Making reservations under another name or account to circumvent the 14 day restriction is prohibited.
- Generators are allowed throughout the campground and must be turned off during quiet hours.
- Wood fires are not permitted in the campground. Only charcoal cooking fires are permitted in a grill, stove, or other self-contained unit.
- A fire may be ignited and maintained only by using fuel sources designed and commonly used for warmth or the preparation of food, such as charcoal briquettes or natural firewood. Lighting or maintaining a fire with other materials including, but not limited to, flammable liquids, garbage, fireworks, plastics, aerosol canisters, batteries, or other manufactured or synthetic materials, is prohibited.
- All equipment must fit on the site pad. If you have a large RV over 25 feet, you may have to park your second vehicle in the auxiliary parking area just outside the campground or purchase an additional campsite. Vehicles may not be parked on grass.
- At each campsite, there is a limit of six people, two cars (or one car and one trailer), and two tents.
- After heavy rain there may be areas of standing water due to the low terrain.
- Biting insects are prevalent in summer months. Netting and repellent are recommended.
- Campsites are exposed and subject to weather extremes. There are no shaded sites.
- Must be 18 yrs of age to reserve a site.
