We have been camping for up to 2-weeks at Ocracoke for many years. Plan for variable weather - wind, sun and rain. Great place to bike, both int he campground and on the path to town and into town. Bring some sort of sun shade for the beach. If you can't stand cold water showers, consider bringing a sun shower.

Ocracoke Island along is so beautiful. Then you add that view of the night sky from the campground…no words describes the beauty of it.

The sites in this campground are very close together, so it can be tricky figuring out how/where to set up so that you have a little privacy. The sites right next to the dunes are awesome! Really great campground, all around!

Ocracoke is my favorite campground!
Whether you want to camp closest to the dunes/water or further back in the "upper Ds" with some shrubbery and shade, there is no "bad" space. The stars at night are awesome, and if you don't like the weather, tomorrow will be better. Going into town between 9-6 will get you any provisions you may have left behind, and most campers are happy to lend one another a hand. Restrooms are well-maintained. Showers are cold and consequently brief :) I've been coming for years to disconnect and rarely leave disappointed, but I always leave lighter in spirit.

A3 is a wonderful camp spot. We had lovely neighbors who chose not to use their generator and listen to the ocean instead. B loop had a camper who ran his generator all day long. It was extremely noisy and it could be heard in the distance and certainly among 5 other campsites nearby. Hopefully in the future solar only campers and tenters would be the norm. Generators of industrial strength will be not allowed and also the long hours allowed for generators will be cut down to 4 hours a day like most Park Service campgrounds. Every restaurant or take out on Ocracoke is a pleasure. Ice is available at the market.

Nice and clean bathrooms & campgrounds.Everyone was respectful of each other's space.I liked the cold water showers after a day on the beach.

General
- Ocracoke is accessible only by ferry or aircraft. Ferry reservations may be required during peak season.
- Camping is limited to a total of 14 days of camping between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Making reservations under another name or account to circumvent the 14 day restriction is prohibited.
- Generators are allowed throughout the campground and must be turned off during quiet hours.
- Wood fires are not permitted in the campground. Only charcoal cooking fires are permitted in a grill, stove, or other self-contained unit.
- A fire may be ignited and maintained only by using fuel sources designed and commonly used for warmth or the preparation of food, such as charcoal briquettes or natural firewood. Lighting or maintaining a fire with other materials including, but not limited to, flammable liquids, garbage, fireworks, plastics, aerosol canisters, batteries, or other manufactured or synthetic materials, is prohibited.
- All equipment must fit on the site pad. If you have a large RV over 25 feet, you may have to park your second vehicle in the auxiliary parking area just outside the campground or purchase an additional campsite. Vehicles may not be parked on grass.
- At each campsite, there is a limit of six people, two cars (or one car and one trailer), and two tents.
- After heavy rain there may be areas of standing water due to the low terrain.
- Biting insects are prevalent in summer months. Netting and repellent are recommended.
- Campsites are exposed and subject to weather extremes. There are no shaded sites.
- Must be 18 yrs of age to reserve a site.
