This is a really good site. It’s not far from the bathroom or the showers. The only drawbacks were it’s full of sandburs and people cut through our campsite on their way to the beach, even though there were other trails available.
Wish there was more of a Ranger presence. There were people letting their dogs run off leash through the campsites and on the beach through bird nesting sites. There was another guy in the campground who hooked his hose up to the only water Spicket And was filling his tank and washing the back of his truck.

It is a very special place and thoroughly enjoyed the experience camping right near the beach. Massive size mosquitos in the bathrooms. Had to wear bug stuff that often was ineffective.
The beach was perfect.

This is one of the best camping experiences in NC. Great sense of community, safe and isolated. The beaches are top notch and the island is the way a beach community should be. The best part of camping here is that you never know what you are gonna get. You could get no wind and all mosquitoes, or too much wind and things blowing away. You could have super hot beach day with torrential downpours at dinner time or the most perfect mild breeze, no bugs, blinging night sky with a new moon filled with shooting starts and laughter filling the campground from numerous pockets of campers. It’s not like any place you’ve camped.

We love the Ocracoke state campground! The stars at night are incredible! I thought it was clean and the that the park rangers were very nice. My only complaint is that the rules recently changed to allow generators in the D loop. I find them super annoying.

The campsites are very nice and so is the beach which is right there! A simple walk over the dunes and you are right there! We had to leave 2 nights early on for 4 night trip because our camper was too hot and without electricity it was not possible to cool it down! Was not a fan of the cold showers but the restrooms were nice!

General
- Ocracoke is accessible only by ferry or aircraft. Ferry reservations may be required during peak season.
- Camping is limited to a total of 14 days of camping between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Making reservations under another name or account to circumvent the 14 day restriction is prohibited.
- Generators are allowed throughout the campground and must be turned off during quiet hours.
- Wood fires are not permitted in the campground. Only charcoal cooking fires are permitted in a grill, stove, or other self-contained unit.
- A fire may be ignited and maintained only by using fuel sources designed and commonly used for warmth or the preparation of food, such as charcoal briquettes or natural firewood. Lighting or maintaining a fire with other materials including, but not limited to, flammable liquids, garbage, fireworks, plastics, aerosol canisters, batteries, or other manufactured or synthetic materials, is prohibited.
- All equipment must fit on the site pad. If you have a large RV over 25 feet, you may have to park your second vehicle in the auxiliary parking area just outside the campground or purchase an additional campsite. Vehicles may not be parked on grass.
- At each campsite, there is a limit of six people, two cars (or one car and one trailer), and two tents.
- After heavy rain there may be areas of standing water due to the low terrain.
- Biting insects are prevalent in summer months. Netting and repellent are recommended.
- Campsites are exposed and subject to weather extremes. There are no shaded sites.
- Must be 18 yrs of age to reserve a site.
