While chilly, March is a beautiful time to visit Ocracoke. It is especially good for the Hammock Hills nature walk across Highway 12. In the summer, it can be pretty buggy, but it was great!

We went to Ocracoke mid March. The campsites were just as expected. Having not been there before we wanted to change sites and the hosts helped us with that and were very friendly. A number of the rest rooms were still winterized and as such not available. Had we decided to go in early April, then more restaurants would be available. What we were after was the natural beauty and we had it . Be prepared for ferry’s not being able to sail due to weather. We had very high winds one night that made seas rough and causing flooding in Hatteras. Ferry’s are the only way on and off the island so be prepared to be flexible.

One of my favorite places off-season. Bring all your winter gear/layers and enjoy being one of the very few souls walking the fabulous miles of beautiful beach. When it's really too windy to walk on the beach, I enjoy walking the nature trail through the maritime forest that is off of the little parking lot directly across Hwy 12 from the campground entrance.

This site, this campground is beautiful, the beach access terrific. My favorite place to camp on the Outer Banks, I have been coming here all my life.

We stayed her in March so it was off season. The park is beautiful, clean and we had it mostly to ourselves. Our site had lots of sun for our solar panel. We rode our bikes to town and toured around and ate lunch at the brewery. The crab stuffed pretzel is a must try. The hosts were super friendly and there was one heated bathroom open ( no showers). This is a wonderful peaceful campground to enjoy the beach, nature and see some stars.

Absolutely LOVE this place. Decent sized level sites which are nicely spaced for some privacy. Highly recommend.

General
- Ocracoke is accessible only by ferry or aircraft. Ferry reservations may be required during peak season.
- Camping is limited to a total of 14 days of camping between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Making reservations under another name or account to circumvent the 14 day restriction is prohibited.
- Generators are allowed throughout the campground and must be turned off during quiet hours.
- Wood fires are not permitted in the campground. Only charcoal cooking fires are permitted in a grill, stove, or other self-contained unit.
- A fire may be ignited and maintained only by using fuel sources designed and commonly used for warmth or the preparation of food, such as charcoal briquettes or natural firewood. Lighting or maintaining a fire with other materials including, but not limited to, flammable liquids, garbage, fireworks, plastics, aerosol canisters, batteries, or other manufactured or synthetic materials, is prohibited.
- All equipment must fit on the site pad. If you have a large RV over 25 feet, you may have to park your second vehicle in the auxiliary parking area just outside the campground or purchase an additional campsite. Vehicles may not be parked on grass.
- At each campsite, there is a limit of six people, two cars (or one car and one trailer), and two tents.
- After heavy rain there may be areas of standing water due to the low terrain.
- Biting insects are prevalent in summer months. Netting and repellent are recommended.
- Campsites are exposed and subject to weather extremes. There are no shaded sites.
- Must be 18 yrs of age to reserve a site.
