All went well, ferry was great. Campsite was great, restrooms were clean. Only recommending putting lights in the shower.

Ocracoke Campground offers a beautiful, well-maintained setting with easy access to a stunning beach, making it a favorite among campers. Many reviews highlight the campground's cleanliness, helpful staff, and the peaceful atmosphere, ideal for relaxation and stargazing. However, some campers noted issues with mosquitoes, generator noise in the D Loop, and occasional maintenance concerns, but overall, the positive experiences outweigh the negatives, with many expressing a desire to return.

In September the water in the showers is not as cold as in April. The best times we have had on Ocracoke are September and October.

Cell service made using the app impossible to reserve a spot once you are there. The QR code didn’t go anywhere. We ended up going to the library to use a computer to do it.

This area experienced a major weather event and we did not get an email from telling us not to come. The NC ferry system contacted us, another campground we were staying at a few days later contacted us, everyone but the NPS. You could have put people at serious risk not informing people of the conditions. All the island resources were depleted and helicopter operators were having to run.
This gross negligence has never happened before when major weather events have happened, when we have been camping in the past.

We arrived and noticed that the site we booked was too small for our trailer, which I don’t understand because you have to put the length in when booking…no one was at the check-in kiosk, so I went knocking on the HOST site. I knocked on the trailer door and she came to the door, opened and we explained that our trailer would not have the space that was needed, which, by the way, was right next to the host trailer. The campground was very empty but when I tried to rebook a different spot, it showed that there were NO sites available, she took care of that, so that was very helpful. We never saw her again during that stay…however…we were supposed to check out, but due to the nor’easter that was coming, we stayed another night which I had no issue booking myself online, magically, all sites available were then showing as available. No news from our host or the park ranger that was there daily doing his rounds/chores/job. Her car was never moved, was in the same place it was when we arrived. To my knowledge and experience, hosts spoke to campers and were seen daily, was not happy about this. Because highway 12 was breached by high waves, it buckled and was closed down. We then had to be in stand-by line for the ferry, since our reservation had been cancelled due to closure of the ferries. LUCKILY, after spending 2 days+ inline the Ferry staff was able together us out. This latter part has nothing to do with the OCRACOKE camping, but we did NOT know how bad it was stated because there was no information from the host…..who knew???? We had no idea as we don’t live in the area.
On another note, the grounds are very nice, clean and mostly good size for trailers….need hookups, Oregon Inlet had them….

Actually it was horrendous. But the NPS can't do anything about a Nor'easter in the Outer Banks .
We were forced to stay three nights longer than expected due to ferry service shutdown.
The camp host was great help.
