For people visiting the South Unit of Theodore Roosevelt National Park, Cottonwood Campground is a great place to stay. Located five miles (8 km) from the entrance to the South Unit of the park, the campground is open year-round. The campground hosts are wonderful. The bathrooms are spotless. The NP is beautiful and we were able to see bison, elk, deer, prairie dogs, wild horses abd and even a mountain lion on one of our hikes. Cell phone service at the campground is non existent. There is occasional service in the nearby picnic area and back in town at the visitor center. There is more privacy at the sites numbered 1-40 and less at higher numbers.
