For people visiting the South Unit of Theodore Roosevelt National Park, Cottonwood Campground is a great place to stay. Located five miles (8 km) from the entrance to the South Unit of the park, the campground is open year-round. Although our campsites were a tad too close to others for my liking (i.e. barely a delineation at all), the views were beautiful. Waking up to a bison behind our tent was a bit exciting but not unusual I'm told. The wild horses each morning were also a pleasure. And it's a short walk to the river for scenic pictures. All and all, a good experience.

Nice clean campground. Quiet at night. New bathrooms with flush toilets. No showers. Paid $5 for a shower at Medora Campground right outside the park.
